Ha Lam Ward Veterans Association: Spreading love and responsibility to the community

Over the past time, the Association of War Veterans of Ha Lam ward has always promoted the spirit of responsibility, solidarity and exemplary behavior in all activities.

The Executive Committee of the Veterans Association of Ha Lam ward for the 2025-2030 term was introduced at the congress in October 2025.

After Ha Lam ward was established on the basis of merging 3 wards: Ha Trung, Ha Lam and Cao Thang of Ha Long city before according to the 2-level local government model, the Ward Veterans Association quickly completed the organization and successfully organized the 8th Congress of Delegates, term 2025-2030, creating an important premise for activities in the new period.

Currently, the association has 1,436 members in 22 branches, including 425 party members, accounting for 1/4 of the total number of party members in the ward. Notably, 44 war veteran members are holding the positions of secretary, deputy secretary of the party cell, and ward committee, affirming the pioneering and exemplary role of the war veteran force in political life at the grassroots level.

Chairman of the Veterans Association of Ha Lam Ward Nguyen Quoc Khanh said: "The highlight of the association's activities in recent times is the model of "Sponsoring students in difficult circumstances", which was deployed on the occasion of the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year. The Association has coordinated with schools in the area to sponsor 3 students in especially difficult circumstances. Each student is supported with 3 million VND/year to buy books and school supplies. This is the first model to be implemented in the system of the Veterans Association of the province, demonstrating the spirit of responsibility to the community and spreading a profound humanitarian message."

The case of Do Vu Quyen, a 6A student at Nguyen Van Thuoc Secondary School, is a typical example. Quyen's father died early due to a serious illness, her mother did not have a stable job, and she had to raise 2 small children alone. The life of the three of them was extremely difficult. Through the school, the Veterans Association of Ha Lam Ward sponsored Quyen, helping her to continue going to school. Touched by the care of the veterans, Do Vu Quyen shared: "Thank you, veterans, for helping and supporting me to continue studying. I will try to study well to become a useful person for society in the future."

Teacher Ngo Duy Dong, Principal of Nguyen Van Thuoc Secondary School, said: "The Ward Veterans Association's sponsorship of students in difficult circumstances is a meaningful act, demonstrating the spirit of mutual love, helping students gain more confidence and determination to excel in their studies, towards a bright future."

This simple but humane act was praised by local authorities and people, becoming a model to be replicated in the War Veterans Association organization in the whole province.

The Veterans Association of Ha Lam Ward and leaders of Nguyen Van Thuoc Secondary School visited and encouraged Do Vu Quyen, a student in difficult circumstances who was sponsored in the 2025-2026 school year.

Not only being active in social work, the Veterans Association of Ha Lam ward is also the core force in patriotic emulation movements, promoting activities to help each other develop the economy , contributing to the socio-economic development and maintaining national defense and security in the locality.

Many specific movements and models have been effectively maintained and brought about practical results. In the period of 2022-2025, the movement "Lighting up the countryside roads" implemented by the Association of War Veterans in Ha Lam ward mobilized members to contribute more than 35 million VND to support Dong Lam commune (old) to install a lighting system. The model "Bright, green, clean, beautiful model road" was deployed by the association on 22 streets, creating a spacious and civilized urban appearance. The model "Safe school gate" has 9 War Veterans groups in the whole ward regularly guiding and regulating traffic, ensuring safety for students and parents when picking up and dropping off their children.

In addition, the Ha Lam Ward Veterans Association also maintains 22 self-managed security teams with veteran members as the core, regularly coordinating with the police force to patrol and maintain security and order at the grassroots level.

Activities of visiting and giving gifts to members on holidays and Tet, mobilizing contributions to the "Comradely Love" fund to support repairing and building new houses for members in difficulty are maintained regularly by the Veterans Association of Ha Lam Ward, with a total budget of hundreds of millions of VND each year. Thereby, the spirit of solidarity, mutual support and love in the association is increasingly strengthened, spreading widely in the community.

In addition, the Ha Lam Ward Veterans Association also actively participates in educating the younger generation about revolutionary traditions. Every year, the Association coordinates with the Ward Youth Union and schools to organize dozens of traditional talks, "return to the source" activities, and incense offerings to pay tribute to heroic martyrs, helping more than 10,000 students understand more about history, foster patriotism, national pride and a sense of civic responsibility.
