On the morning of May 5, at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy, Binh Chanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, a 500m² Buddhist flag was raised, marking the 2025 United Nations Day of Vesak.
It is known that this is the largest Buddhist flag in the world today. Before hanging the flag, 13 volunteers participated in holding the rope and fixing the flag.
Monks and Buddhists were present early to witness the ceremony of hanging the great Buddhist flag.
500 balloons with 5 colors symbolizing the Buddhist flag were distributed to Buddhists and monks attending the great Buddhist flag raising ceremony.
Nun Pham Thi Xuan, 70 years old, shared: "The 2025 United Nations Vesak Festival taking place in Ho Chi Minh City is an honor for Buddhists and monks in the country. This is also the first time I have seen with my own eyes a Buddhist flag of such a large area."
At exactly 10:15, the monks and delegates conducted the flag-raising ceremony.
The flag is sewn from special super durable fabric according to international tradition, with 5 colors: blue-yellow-red-white-orange, arranged according to the standard pattern of the Buddhist flag.
The Great Buddha Banner is 25.69m long, symbolizing the length of Buddhist history over 2569 years, with a width of 19.47m.
The flag is a symbol of unity across five continents, expressing the desire for world peace , and also the desire of Buddhism to spread compassion, in line with the spirit of this year's Vesak theme: "Solidarity and tolerance for human dignity: Buddhist wisdom for world peace and sustainable development".
After the giant Buddha flag was hung, volunteers stretched and tied it in place.
Buddhists took photos to check-in with the great Buddha flag on the morning of May 5 at the Vietnam Buddhist Academy.
