Friendship Bridge Visit
At the press conference, Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Ha Vi emphasized that the State visit of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping to Vietnam from April 14-15 is a historic event. This is the fourth visit to Vietnam in the past 10 years by President Xi Jinping, and is also the first stop on the Chinese leader's overseas trip this year.
Notably, this is also the first time in the past year that the General Secretaries of the two Parties have visited each other, demonstrating the high level of trust and strategic nature of the bilateral relationship.
According to Ambassador Ha Vi, the visit achieved many substantive results, including breakthrough and strategic cooperation projects, contributing to creating new momentum for the process of building the Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future, for the development of the socialist cause of the two countries, and at the same time spreading positive energy for peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world .
Sharing about the outstanding achievements after the visit, the Ambassador pointed out that the two sides upgraded the 3+3 strategic dialogue mechanism on diplomacy, defense and public security to the ministerial level, showing that trust and strategic cooperation between the two neighboring nations have reached new heights.
In addition, the two countries officially launched the Vietnam-China railway cooperation mechanism. Ambassador Ha Vi believes that the project will not only create a strong driving force for bilateral trade development and people-to-people exchange, but will also be a typical project of high-quality cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road between Vietnam and China, bringing practical benefits to the people of the S-shaped country.

In addition, the two countries will coordinate to implement the project “Red Journey: Youth Research and Study” for Vietnamese youth to visit China, expected to be implemented in 2025. “We believe that through this activity, the youth of the two countries will deeply feel the “red mountains and rivers” that the two brotherly nations have built, as well as cherish the precious neighborly friendship. The participation process will help enhance mutual understanding, create a common “red memory”, foster friendship between the younger generation, thereby focusing the strength of youth to contribute to the cause of building socialism in each country and building the Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future of strategic significance, creating a solid social foundation for economic development and long-term stability”, Ambassador Ha Vi expressed.
Regarding the prospects for bilateral relations, the Chinese diplomat said that the two sides will continue to implement the common perception of high-ranking leaders, promote strategic cooperation, and focus on three key areas: Strengthening infrastructure connectivity and cooperation in new areas such as artificial intelligence and green development; promoting humanistic exchanges, especially during the Vietnam-China Humanitarian Exchange Year 2025; enhancing coordination to deal with global challenges, fostering stable, healthy, and prosperous development of the region and the world.
Trees have roots, water has a source
When General Secretary and President Xi Jinping and other Vietnamese leaders attended the Vietnam-China People's Friendship Festival on April 15, he made a meaningful statement: "A tall tree has its roots, a flowing water has its source, the roots of Vietnam-China relations are in the people, the bloodline is in the people, and the strength is also in the people." According to the Ambassador, this statement affirms that the friendship between the people of the two countries is the important and core foundation for the development of bilateral relations.
The Chinese diplomat stated, “History is the clearest mirror and also the best teacher.” If we look back at the history of Vietnam-China friendship, especially over the past hundred years, we can clearly see that only when bilateral relations develop well can the revolutionary cause and construction of each country progress steadily. This is a historical law that has been proven in practice.
Congratulating Vietnam on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), Ambassador Ha Vi emphasized that this is an important event, demonstrating the process of the entire Vietnamese nation moving towards independent development and prosperity.
On that historic journey, the two Parties and two countries fought side by side. President Ho Chi Minh and President Mao Zedong built a special friendship, as comrades and brothers. The Party, State and people of China gave Vietnam the most steadfast and greatest support. In return, Vietnam also strongly supported its close neighbor, especially in the Thap Van Dai Son campaign, contributing to national independence and liberation.

In particular, on that journey, there were many touching stories that touched everyone's hearts. Ambassador Ha Vi mentioned the story of Nam Khe Son Hospital in Guangxi Province, where the neighboring country treated more than 5,000 wounded Vietnamese soldiers during the fierce war years. During the 8 years that the two nations fought together against the US, Chinese doctors and nurses devoted their youth and enthusiasm, contributing to fostering the warm friendship between the people of the two countries. Or the story of the Vinh Cuu bicycles and Giai Phong trucks from the neighboring brothers that accompanied many Vietnamese soldiers along the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail, bringing supplies and weapons to support the beloved South.
Also in the process of helping Vietnam liberate the country, many Chinese soldiers remained on the other side of the border, using their blood and bones to write the friendship between the two brotherly nations. The Ambassador also expressed his deep gratitude to the Ministry of National Defense for actively implementing the renovation and embellishment of Chinese martyrs' cemeteries in Vietnam. Many tombs have been newly built but still retain the traditional architecture, as a tribute from the Vietnamese people to international friends who sacrificed for the country's peace.
In particular, at the invitation of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, the Chinese People's Liberation Army Honor Guard will participate in the upcoming 50th anniversary celebration of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day in Ho Chi Minh City. This is a clear demonstration of the friendship, cooperation and strong belief in looking towards the future. Referring to this milestone as a "sacred moment", Ambassador Ha Vi affirmed, "we must engrave history, look towards the future, inherit and promote the Vietnam-China friendship".
Continue writing the future
Entering the new era, that friendship continues to become a strong driving force to promote Vietnam's economic development, while supporting the S-shaped country in exploring the path of socialist modernization suitable to national conditions.
In recent years, Chinese enterprises have invested more than 6 billion USD in solar power projects in Vietnam, including related industrial production chains. China's total capacity in wind and solar power projects in Vietnam also accounts for more than 50% of the total installed capacity.
A typical example is the Soc Son Waste-to-Energy Plant, invested by a Chinese enterprise, which consumes more than 60% of Hanoi's daily household waste with the standard of not emitting toxic substances. In the future, this enterprise plans to expand its investment to treat all of Hanoi's household waste, ensuring the highest environmental standards. Or the Hanoi urban railway, built by a Chinese enterprise, has helped the capital's residents to travel more conveniently every day.
“I hope that Vietnam and China can take advantage of cooperation opportunities, with the development of high-quality production forces in both countries, to open up new opportunities in areas such as artificial intelligence, semiconductors, nuclear energy... Thereby creating a deeper cooperation network, bringing practical benefits to businesses and people of the two countries,” Ambassador Ha Vi commented.

In particular, in the current international context, when protectionism and unilateralism are on the rise and the global economic and political system is facing many challenges, the two socialist countries of Vietnam and China need to strengthen coordination to jointly protect the central role of the United Nations, maintain the multilateral trade system with the WTO as the core, preserve a peaceful, fair and just international environment; and jointly protect the legitimate rights and interests of the two peoples and developing countries.
“Only with such joint efforts can we maintain regional and international stability, create a solid foundation for sustainable development of each country and bring an increasingly happy life to the people of the two countries,” Ambassador Ha Vi shared.
In addition, the Ambassador highlighted the role of local-level cooperation in deepening bilateral relations. Accordingly, the early spring meetings between leaders of Guangxi and Guangdong (China) and Vietnamese border provinces such as Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Ha Giang, and recently Hai Phong, have achieved many positive results. Exchange activities such as the Border People's Festival, friendly football competitions, chess competitions, etc. have been highly appreciated by public opinion.
In 2025, the two sides will continue to organize many creative events such as cross-border cycling, singing songs across the border river, tourism exhibitions, etc. The Ambassador believes that these activities will promote "heart-to-heart connections" between localities of the two countries, on the basis of hard infrastructure connection and soft institutional cooperation, thereby consolidating a more solid social foundation for the long-term development of bilateral relations.
