The person mentioned is Colonel Tu Cang.
Colonel Tu Cang was born in 1928, real name Nguyen Van Tau, from Ba Ria - Vung Tau . He worked as a military intelligence officer for the Viet Minh in Ba Ria - Vung Tau from 1947-1954.
In 1954, he gathered in the North, changed his name to Tran Van Quang and became the reconnaissance platoon leader and political commissar of the special forces company, Division 338. In 1961, he returned to work in the Southern battlefield. From 1962 to 1972, he was the head of the H.63 Intelligence Group. This was the most important strategic intelligence group in the resistance war against the US.
As a commander, he directed and coordinated with legendary spies such as Pham Xuan An and Tam Thao, carrying out important intelligence gathering missions from the enemy. Top secret documents transferred from the H63 Cluster directly contributed to the strategic decisions of the Politburo , changing the situation on the battlefield.

He once recounted that the period of operating in the inner city of Saigon was a dangerous period when he had to transform into many different roles to create a cover. From tutor to accountant, each role required quickness, intelligence and flexible improvisation.
During the years of resistance, the philosophy of "living as if dead" was always the guiding principle for Colonel Tu Cang. That philosophy helped him and his teammates at the H63 Cluster maintain a spirit of steel, regardless of all lurking dangers to complete their missions. Thanks to that, despite operating in extremely dangerous conditions, the information line of the H63 intelligence cluster was never interrupted. The group's achievements became the pride of the entire B2 intelligence force, contributing greatly to the victory of the nation.
Mr. Tu Cang's resume in the enemy's secret files was only a few lines: "Deputy Political Commissar of the Regional Intelligence, white, tall, two-handed shooter, likes literature and art. Hometown: Unknown. Family: Unknown".
He joined the revolution in 1947, when his wife was pregnant with their first child. Since then, he lost contact with his family for nearly 30 years. Due to the organization's request, he changed his name, lived under a new identity, and worked as an intelligence agent right in the enemy's heartland. His wife, Ms. Anh, did not know whether he was alive or dead, only knowing that the last time he said: "I'm leaving, I'll come back." His wife has always waited, believing in his words of return.
On the evening of April 30, 1975, when Saigon had just been liberated, he returned to his old house in Thi Nghe, without a military rank or medal, just a man walking into a dark alley, calling out loudly: “Nhong! Nhong!” Mrs. Anh was startled. That was her daughter’s nickname.
Mrs. Anh ran out, bursting into tears: “Here, are you coming back?” The first hug after 29 years. The day he left, his daughter was still in her mother’s womb. The day he returned, she was 29 years old, married, and had a small child. He choked up and couldn’t say a word, he could only hug his granddaughter tightly. The whole family cried.
After the country was reunified, he continued to contribute to the protection of the northern border and the performance of international duties in Cambodia. In 2006, Mr. Tu Cang was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces.
By this year (2025), Mr. Tu Cang is 97 years old, his wife passed away due to old age and poor health in 2020.
