Ms. Ma Thi Xuan Thu has strongly inspired many generations of students, helping them not only love but also be passionate about learning and researching history.

Master - Meritorious Teacher (EM) Ma Thi Xuan Thu, whom I always respect, has devoted more than 30 years to theeducation career in Dam Doi district, Ca Mau province. She worked at Dam Doi High School and Thai Thanh Hoa High School, from the position of history teacher to head of the professional group, then vice principal until her retirement.

The title of Merited Teacher that Ms. Xuan Thu was awarded is a worthy recognition for the perseverance and tireless dedication of a teacher in the journey to improve the quality of education, especially in history.

As many students are attracted to "trendy" subjects, history is gradually becoming a neglected subject. With a love for the profession and a great sense of responsibility, Ms. Xuan Thu has pioneered innovative teaching methods, helping students not only acquire knowledge but also truly understand the value of history.

She has systematized and consolidated the basic knowledge at the basic education stage, while helping students explore core content more deeply through in-depth topics on world history, Southeast Asia and Vietnamese history.

Ms. Xuan Thu's initiative on "Solutions to improve the quality of history teaching" was ranked as good by the Scientific Council of the Ca Mau Education and Training Sector and widely applied in schools. With the initiative "Innovation in testing and assessment to improve the quality of history teaching in high schools", she was ranked as excellent by the Scientific Council of the Ca Mau Education and Training Sector. This initiative was presented at the National Scientific Conference on History Teaching in Da Nang in 2012; and was awarded a certificate of merit by the Prime Minister.

In addition, the initiative "Using questions in history teaching to promote students' active learning" is also highly appreciated for its feasibility in teaching. The electronic lesson plans and documents that she compiled "exclusively" not only help students access knowledge more easily but also create a dynamic and creative learning space.

The teachings of the past come alive

During the journey "Through the Northwest" at the end of December 2023, when I went to Dien Bien with nearly 100 propaganda, press and publishing officials from Ho Chi Minh City, I could not help but be moved by the historical imprints here.

Dien Bien, the legendary land with its glorious victory, evoked in me pride in the heroic past of the nation and thoughts about the current way of teaching history. The image of the Dien Bien Phu battle on the afternoon of May 7, 1954, when the flag of "Determination to fight, determination to win" flew on the roof of Christian de Castries' command bunker - signaling a historic victory, appeared clearly as if those events were happening right before my eyes.

At that moment, I suddenly remembered Ms. Xuan Thu's creative history teaching method more than 20 years ago. She did not just teach history as a series of dry events but turned each lesson into a "battle", like a 45-minute documentary with profound and engaging commentary. She was like a "female general" before the battle - strong, decisive but also full of emotion - when telling about the heroes who considered death as light as a feather, carrying a thousand-pound explosive to explode to open the way to liberate Dien Bien Phu on Hill A1.

Ms. Xuan Thu did not force students to memorize numbers or facts. She guided us to approach history in a practical way, like a soldier carefully preparing before going into battle. We learned to grasp the context, strategy and profound lessons, like warriors who understand the terrain through each map before rushing into battle.

When mentioning Ms. Xuan Thu, not only me but also many generations of students and teachers at Dam Doi High School have respectful compliments. She is not only an excellent teacher but also a trustworthy colleague, always listening and willing to share experiences with everyone.

Exemplary in her career and personal life, Ms. Xuan Thu has become a great source of inspiration for both students and colleagues, whenever they remember the district school that has given wings to many generations of Ca Mau citizens to contribute to the construction of a rich and beautiful homeland and country...
