In the 2020 - 2025 term, the Son La Provincial Military Party Committee has effectively grasped and advised the Provincial Party Committee and the People's Committee of Son La Province to lead the implementation of military and defense tasks associated with socio-economic development, building a national defense posture, people's security and a peaceful , cooperative and developed border. Directing the successful organization of drills at the provincial, district and grassroots levels, 100% achieving excellent and excellent results and ensuring absolute safety. The work of building a standing force, militia and self-defense force , and reserve mobilization has been focused on, completing 100% of the recruitment and calling targets for citizens to join the army. Training and combat readiness have been seriously implemented; actively participating in disaster prevention and control, search and rescue, and building local political bases.
Coordination with departments and branches in local defense work is implemented synchronously and effectively. Mass mobilization work associated with new rural construction, hunger eradication and poverty reduction, and promoting the role of mass organizations are regularly focused on. In the new term 2025 - 2030, the Son La Provincial Military Party Committee sets the goal of building a national defense foundation associated with a people's security posture, a people's border defense posture and a solid "people's hearts posture". Strive to maintain the militia and self-defense force at 2% or more of the population; improve the quality of the reserve force; ensure 100% of the annual military recruitment target; effectively implement the digital transformation program, build "digital units" and "digital soldiers". At the Congress, delegates discussed and contributed many enthusiastic opinions to the documents submitted to the 14th National Party Congress and the draft political report of the Executive Committee submitted to the 16th National Party Congress of Son La Province. The Congress also reviewed and objectively evaluated the Party Committee's leadership results in the past term and proposed directions, goals and solutions for the next term.

Speaking at the Congress, Lieutenant General Pham Duc Duyen suggested that the Son La Provincial Military Party Committee in the coming term should focus on thoroughly grasping the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation, especially the Resolution of the 8th Central Committee (13th tenure) on "Strategy for protecting the Fatherland in the new situation". Well perform the function of advising local Party committees and authorities on local military and defense tasks; closely coordinate with forces to grasp, forecast, and correctly assess the situation, promptly handle situations to avoid being passive and surprised. Advise the Military Region Command and the Border Guard Command to direct management and grasp the border situation. Advise local Party committees and authorities to closely lead and direct drills, focusing on provincial KVPT drills and civil defense; direct the improvement of training quality for subjects, especially focusing on training for militia and self-defense forces and reserve forces. Focus on leading the promotion of digital transformation, application of science and technology, innovation, and effective implementation of the "Digital Education for the People" movement in the provincial military. At the same time, it is necessary to regularly build solidarity and unity in Party committees, Party organizations and leading cadres at all levels; uphold the principles of Party organization and operation. Focus on building, fostering and improving the leadership capacity and fighting strength of the Party committees of the Regional Defense Command and the Border Guard Command to be able to lead the unit to successfully complete its tasks.
The Congress announced the Decision of the Standing Committee of the Son La Provincial Party Committee appointing comrade Hoang Quoc Khanh, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, to hold the position of Secretary of the Provincial Military Party Committee, term XVIII; comrade Nguyen Dinh Viet, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, to participate in the Executive Committee of the Son La Provincial Military Party Committee.

The first meeting of the Provincial Military Party Executive Committee, term XVIII, elected the Standing Committee, Deputy Secretary, Inspection Committee and Chairman of the Party Committee Inspection Committee.
