Registering, adjusting, and adding admission wishes: Need a reasonable 'tactic'

GD&TĐ - From July 16 to 5:00 p.m. on July 28, 2025, candidates can register, adjust, and supplement their admission wishes on the Ministry of Education and Training's General Admission Support System (System).

Experts note that candidates need to complete all steps and have a reasonable registration "strategy" to avoid "unfairly failing".

Don't stop and exit midway

According to the instructions of the Ministry of Education and Training , candidates can register, adjust and supplement their admission wishes an unlimited number of times. Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Deputy Director of the Department of Higher Education ( Ministry of Education and Training ) noted that the registration of admission wishes for majors/programs must be done online on the System or the National Public Service Portal.

Candidates must complete the entire application process from start to finish until their wishes are confirmed by the System. Candidates must not stop and exit in the middle, because the operations will not be recorded by the System.

When changing preferences, candidates must do the same, paying attention to the final steps. In previous admission seasons, some candidates adjusted and changed their preferences but did not complete the final step, so the System did not record the change and returned to the previously registered preference. For candidates who are directly admitted, the training institution must upload the preference to the System for processing according to the general schedule.

To avoid mistakes, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Phong Dien - Vice President of Hanoi University of Science and Technology advises that when entering wishes into the System, candidates need to arrange them in order of priority from wish 1 (highest wish) to the next wishes. Regardless of the admission method, candidates should put the wish they really love the most, the wish they want to be admitted the most first (wish 1). This ensures their rights, helping them have the opportunity to be admitted to the highest, best wish among all wishes that are eligible for admission.

According to regulations, candidates are allowed to register an unlimited number of wishes. Therefore, Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung - Deputy Head of Communications and Admissions Department, University of Commerce advises candidates not to register only a few wishes. This will invisibly reduce the chance of admission. Candidates should have a strategy and tactic to register their wishes appropriately. Accordingly, they should not put all their wishes into a group of majors and schools with a very high level of competition. Candidates should also not register too many wishes.

“In the previous admissions season, there were cases of registering more than 100 wishes. This is unnecessary and even wasteful,” Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung shared, and at the same time recommended that candidates should divide their wishes into groups: top, middle, and lower schools, to increase their chances of being admitted to university. That means students should not “put all their eggs in one basket” but should spread out their “wish portfolio” to minimize risks.

Avoid "unfair failure"

Emphasizing that candidates must not ignore the additional criteria (if any), Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Son - Principal of the University of Natural Sciences (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) shared that some universities have additional criteria when considering admission, if candidates do not pay attention, it can lead to "unfair failure".

According to the 2025 university and college admission guidelines, the Ministry of Education and Training will provide technical support to training institutions on the General Admission Support System (Business page) regarding admission information, candidates' admission registration wishes, high school graduation exam scores, graduation exam scores, competency assessment test scores, thinking, V-SAT (if any), high school academic results (for candidates studying grade 12 in 2025), evidence of priority and admission software (training institutions must update the correct version of the admission software)... to help training institutions conduct admission smoothly.

Training institutions should note that the Admissions Processing System only filters out candidates who have passed the higher admissions to other training institutions from the expected admission list that the training institution sends to the System. It does not have the function of adjusting the quotas and benchmarks that the training institution has determined. The System does not consider admissions on behalf of training institutions.

The Ministry of Education and Training said that training institutions will receive full priority information of candidates after candidates register for admission on the System. Training institutions organizing admission are not allowed to set requirements that cause inconvenience to candidates contrary to the Government's regulations on abolishing the requirement to submit and present household registration books and certificates of residence information when carrying out administrative procedures.

Training institutions must strictly comply with and consistently implement the regulations on the admission list. The official list of candidates admitted to the training institution is sent back to the training institution by the Admission Application Processing System (based on the list of candidates expected to be admitted uploaded by the training institution to the System) after the final processing of applications on August 20, 2025. Training institutions are absolutely not allowed to adjust this official Admission List.

Candidates only register for admission by major. Therefore, training institutions that use many methods and combinations for admission must consider all methods and combinations for candidates (if candidates meet the regulations) according to the announced admission information.

The Ministry of Education and Training requires that training institutions must arrange a permanent department, including: Competent and experienced staff in enrollment work, who have a good grasp of regulations to answer questions related to the enrollment work of the training institution and preferential policies in enrollment. Create conditions to support candidates to use the training institution's computer rooms connected to the Internet to register for admission (if candidates have a need).

The Ministry of Education and Training notes that candidates need to carefully study the admission information and admission regulations of the training institution, and not register for a major or training program that does not meet the requirements. In cases where the training institution organizes separate forms of admission registration, submitting documents and evidence directly or online at the training institution, candidates still follow the regulations of the training institution but must also register on the System to be considered for admission together with all other candidates.
