So worrying, Mr. Kim Sang-sik!

Discrete Test

The match against India was the 6th match of the Vietnamese team under coach Kim Sang-sik. During the past 5 matches, the Korean coach has never kept the same starting lineup. Last night's match at Thien Truong Stadium was no exception, when once again Mr. Kim continued to experiment. Despite the pressure to win to end the series of unsuccessful matches, the Korean coach still wanted to give opportunities to new elements, creating the premise to build a framework with his own style.

With experiments like To Van Vu on the right wing, Le Pham Thanh Long and Chau Ngoc Quang playing as a central midfielder pair or Nguyen Van Toan and Bui Vi Hao on the two wings supporting Nguyen Hoang Duc, the Vietnamese team had difficulty against India's aggressive pressing style. Mr. Kim's pieces became disjointed, which is not difficult to understand, because this was the first time many faces in this match played together.

Coach Kim Sang-sik's intention was to develop the ball from the defense, similar to Philippe Troussier's philosophy, but the way the ball was circulated was somewhat "softer". The Vietnamese team could pass the ball short, or attack with long balls depending on the time. However, for most of the first half, the attacks were neutralized because the players could not find a common voice. For example, winger Vi Hao tended to hold the ball and dribble into the center, while Hoang Duc or Thanh Long prioritized one-touch coordination. The role of central midfielders like Thanh Long and Ngoc Quang was only clear in the second-line finishing phases. As for the operation of the game, each player was still in a different rhythm. The lack of rhythm is easy to see in a team that is still in the philosophy-forming stage, without a specific direction.

However, unlike the matches against Russia or Thailand, the Vietnamese team still managed to score, in a chaotic match. Vi Hao's volley, which hit an Indian defender's leg and changed direction to score at the end of the first half, did not reflect the style of play that coach Kim Sang-sik and his players had practiced. However, this was the goal that broke the psychological knot for the whole team.

CONTINUE TO CORRECT MISTAKES

Before the match against India, the Vietnamese team had gone a year without keeping a clean sheet, in which in the last 6 matches (5 matches under coach Kim Sang-sik), the team conceded at least 2 goals in each match. The defense is still a headache for the Korean coach.

In the match against India, the gap continued to appear when captain Que Ngoc Hai made a mistake at the beginning of the second half. The 31-year-old center back chose the wrong landing spot, allowing Kasam Choudhary to easily get past and lift the ball over Nguyen Filip's head to score. 13 goals conceded after 6 matches from many different scenarios showed that the Vietnamese team was forced to make adjustments.

Van Quyet said goodbye to the team after the match against India

In the second half, Mr. Kim Sang-sik sent the best players he could into the field, including Quang Hai, Dinh Bac, Van Khang, Tien Linh... to make a difference. For the first time in 3 matches, the Vietnamese team met an opponent who defended deep to freely show off their attacking options. Unlike the first half, the Vietnamese team played better in developing the ball, executing ideas from attacking the center, the wings to dominating the second line. However, facing an opponent who had not won in the last 10 matches, the Korean coach's team still lacked cohesion and determination to score.

The Vietnamese team is still stuck, partly because the playing style and human structure have not been able to take shape. However, the main reason probably lies in the fact that the players are carrying a huge psychological burden on their feet. Coach Kim Sang-sik affirmed that he will do everything possible to motivate the players before the AFF Cup 2024. However, whether they really make an effort or not depends on the players themselves. Mr. Kim Sang-sik or the coach at the home club cannot do that job for the players.

With this result, it can be seen that the major surgery of the Vietnamese team will continue!

After the match against India, striker Van Quyet officially said goodbye to the Vietnamese team.
