This is the only gold medal that the Vietnamese team won at this year's Southeast Asian Youth Table Tennis Championship. Athlete Nguyen Hoang Lam was selected for the gifted group of the Army table tennis team. At the age of 15, Lam participated in the 9th National Sports Festival in 2022 in the Army team in the men's team, men's singles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles. After that, this young player was called up to the national youth table tennis team for the first time, competing in the Southeast Asian Youth Championship this year. Hoang Lam surprisingly surpassed his opponents to win the highest position in the U.17 age group.

Previously, in the U.19 men's team event, the Vietnamese team won all the group stage matches against Malaysia 3-1, Cambodia 3-0 and Singapore 3-0. With this result, the U.19 Vietnamese men's team ranked first but lost to Thailand in the semi-finals, so they only received a bronze medal.
