On the morning of December 17, the Agricultural Extension Center (Department of Agriculture and Rural Development) organized a model evaluation of biomass corn production for animal feed, applying mechanization associated with product consumption linkage.
The model was implemented in Di Pho and Hoan Duong villages (Moc Bac commune, Duy Tien town), with a total area of 20 hectares (each village 10 hectares) with 127 participating households. In the model, households were supported with 50% of seeds (NK7328 Bt/GT hybrid corn), 45% of fertilizer. At the same time, technical staff of the Agricultural Extension Center trained people on planting, caring for, and composting corn biomass. Corn biomass in the model was harvested and composted by machine. Moc Bac Dairy Cooperative signed a contract to consume 50% of the output in the model, the remaining 50% of the output was used by households for on-site livestock farming. Through actual assessment, the economic profit of the model is estimated at nearly 28 million VND/ha, 20% higher than corn production for grain outside the model.
The application of mechanization in production helps reduce labor pressure and production costs. At the same time, it creates a source of green forage for livestock farms. The effectiveness of the model is the basis for expanding the area of biomass corn cultivation in other localities in the near future.
