Foreign language is the final exam of the 2024 high school graduation exam, which is also the last exam conducted under the 2006 general education program. Prior to that, candidates had passed the exams in Literature, Mathematics, and the Combined Subjects (Natural Sciences or Social Sciences).

According to the Ministry of Education and Training , the total number of candidates registered for the high school graduation exam this year is over 1,071,000, an increase of more than 45,000 candidates compared to last year. Of these, the number of independent candidates is 46,978, accounting for 4.38%.

In 2024, nearly 67,000 candidates were exempted from the foreign language exam and awarded 10 points for having an international certificate. This number increased by nearly 20,000 compared to last year, equivalent to 6.25% of the total number of candidates this year.

Professor Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Training, stated on the afternoon of June 28th that during the two days of the exam, 9 candidates were disqualified for bringing unauthorized materials and 17 for using mobile phones.

Twelve students were suspended from the Literature exam, and four from the Biology exam. In other subjects, one or two candidates violated regulations to the extent of being suspended. These students will have their entire exam results canceled and will not be recognized as having graduated.

In addition, three candidates received a reprimand, resulting in a 25% deduction from their exam score; one candidate received a warning, resulting in a 50% deduction.

The Ministry of Education and Training assessed the exam as safe and serious. Regarding the exam questions, many teachers and candidates commented that the questions for all subjects had a familiar structure and good differentiation.

The most notable point is the information circulating on social media before the exam that the "Literature exam questions were leaked." The Ministry of Education and Training affirmed that the fact that someone guessed the correct work was "random," and that the exam questions were kept absolutely confidential.

The 2024 high school graduation exam will be organized in a way that remains largely stable compared to the 2020-2023 period. Accordingly, the Ministry of Education and Training will provide overall guidance, while provinces and centrally-governed cities will be responsible for organizing the entire exam locally.

The examination boards will conduct the exams on June 26, 27, and 28; grading will begin on June 29; results will be announced at 8:00 AM on July 17; and high school graduation will be recognized on July 19. Last year, 98.88% of candidates passed the graduation exam, the highest rate since 2015. Of these, more than 546,000 students registered for university admission.
