On November 1st, MoMo and Grab Vietnam announced a partnership. Users can now choose MoMo to pay for existing Grab services such as transportation (GrabBike, GrabCar), food delivery (GrabFood), online grocery shopping (GrabMart), and parcel delivery (GrabExpress). Grab users can also utilize MoMo's postpaid payment feature. This is the second e-wallet integrated into Grab.
Besides Grab, MoMo also collaborates with another ride-hailing platform, Gojek, to increase revenue. In July, Gojek announced that it had launched its GoFood online food ordering feature on the MoMo platform. Through this collaboration, MoMo users in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City can use Gojek's GoFood feature to order food.
Meanwhile, VNPAY collaborates with traditional taxi companies to integrate the service into the "Call Taxi" feature on banking applications such as: VCB Digibank, VietinBank iPay Mobile, BIDV SmartBanking, Agribank E-Mobile Banking, BAOVIET Smart, AB Ditizen, VietABank EzMobile, Eximbank Edigi, HDBank App, SAIGONBANK Smart Banking, IVB Mobile Banking… and VNPAY wallet, helping users call traditional taxis easily, quickly and more economically with just a few taps.
Recently, VNPAY has partnered specifically with Xanh SM, a new Vietnamese technology-based transportation service brand that has recently emerged on the market.
According to VNPAY representatives, developing a taxi service on the VNPAY banking and e-wallet platform, connecting reputable taxi companies, is a unique approach.
Through this platform, users can search for and connect with the nearest driver, proactively track their pick-up/drop-off journey, and enjoy stable fares regardless of weather conditions or peak hours. Users can also pay their fares directly through the mobile app without needing to carry cash.
In addition to taxi services, VNPAY will soon collaborate to deploy services such as delivery, car rental, and airport transfer booking on banking and e-wallet applications.
Currently, VNPAY is collaborating with 100 reputable traditional taxi companies in Vietnam such as Mai Linh, G7, Sun Taxi, Lado Taxi, Van Xuan, Thanh Nga, Thang Long, Thu Do, Sen Hong, Da Nang, Binh An, Que Lua, Saigon Taxi, etc.
In the public transport sector, Hanoi Transport Corporation (Transerco) has become the pioneering public passenger transport unit to apply VNPAY-QR payment at all of its monthly bus pass sales counters.
Keeping pace with the general trend, dozens of private passenger transport companies, including Hoang Long Bus Company, InterBus Lines, Dong Hanh Bus Company, Phuc Xuyen Bus Company, Ha Lan Bus Company, etc., have also promptly connected to this payment application.
Promoting cashless payments
Nguyen Thu Trang (Ba Dinh, Hanoi), who frequently orders taxis through her banking app, says that she can easily book a ride simply by opening her banking app. Payment is quick and convenient, eliminating the need for cash. Furthermore, Trang often receives discount codes.
"I travel frequently, so paying with small change is very time-consuming, whereas it's much easier to just deduct the amount from my account. Drivers also don't have to worry about exchanging money," Ms. Trang said.
Mr. Manh Linh (Thanh Xuan, Hanoi) said: “I use many services such as ride-hailing and food delivery throughout the day. With MoMo allowing payments on Grab, I have another convenient cashless payment method.”
Previously, Mr. Linh frequently used MoMo to transfer/receive money, book airline tickets, buy movie tickets, shop online, pay for groceries, eat out, pay for public services, refuel his car, etc.
A representative from G7 taxi company stated that after partnering with VNPAY, the number of customers booking rides has increased daily, and their sales have risen significantly thanks to leveraging the customer base (approximately 25-30 million people) on the banking and e-wallet application. This has strengthened their brand and expanded their market.
Mr. Nguyen Manh Tuong, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of MoMo, assessed Vietnam as a market with great potential and a rapidly increasing rate of digital transformation. The cooperation between Grab and MoMo can help leverage opportunities in this market and create value for users and businesses.
The collaboration between e-wallets and taxi companies or ride-hailing apps is contributing to accelerating the burgeoning cashless trend in Vietnam, providing convenient and easy payment experiences for many daily needs of Vietnamese users.
This move is seen as helping platforms leverage each other's large existing user bases, thereby increasing revenue from cross-selling products, without incurring significant costs for market expansion.
