On June 15, specialist 2 Nguyen Vu An, Head of General Surgery Department, Xuyen A Long An General Hospital, said that through clinical examination, 160-slice abdominal CT scan with contrast agent, patient H. was found to have a tumor in the transverse colon. Combined with painless colonoscopy (under anesthesia), the transverse colon mucosa was found to have a tumorous lesion occupying the entire circumference of the colon, with a pseudomembrane on the surface, and easy to bleed.
Biopsy sent to pathology, about 2 cm from the tumor there is a smooth sessile polyp about 0.5 cm, pathology result is malignant tumor.
Colon segment containing tumor
The doctors consulted with the General Surgery and Oncology departments, agreed on the diagnosis of transverse colon cancer and indicated laparoscopic surgery to remove the colon segment containing the tumor, combined with lymph node dissection.
During the surgery, the doctors clearly exposed the colon segment containing the tumor and used an automatic endoscope to remove the colon segment containing the tumor. The two segments of intestine were then reconnected to restore the digestive tract.
After surgery, patient H.'s health recovered well and he was discharged after 10 days of treatment.
Colon cancer often develops silently.
Dr. An said that for colon cancer, the tumor often develops silently and does not show clinical symptoms in the early stages, making it difficult to diagnose. Therefore, when clinical symptoms appear, most tumors are already in the late stages. At that time, the tumor has grown to invade neighboring organs and that is a big challenge for endoscopic surgery.
People need to have regular medical check-ups every 6 months - 1 year, especially those with a family history of the disease. When you see unusual symptoms in your body or digestive system, you should immediately go to a medical facility for examination and determine the cause to proactively detect and treat early if there is a colon tumor.
