With an age of 118 years, the ancient tree garden - the ancient rubber garden at An Loc Rubber Farm (One Member Limited Liability Company of Dong Nai Rubber Corporation located in Dau Giay town, Thong Nhat district, Dong Nai province) has become a provincial historical relic and is currently being actively preserved by the locality.
According to Dong Nai Rubber Corporation One Member Limited Liability Company, in 1906, in Bau Ham 2 commune (Thong Nhat district, Dong Nai province), the French experimentally planted the first rubber garden in Vietnam with about 1,000 rubber trees on an area of 8.2 hectares called Suzanah Plantation.
The ancient trees are ancient rubber trees with diameters from 1 - 3 meters, tens of meters high, growing well at the conservation rubber garden of Dong Nai Rubber Corporation, Dau Giay town, Thong Nhat district, Dong Nai province).
The first rubber workers were recruited from the Northern and Central regions; mainly in Trieu Phong district, Quang Tri province.
Due to the suitable soil and climate conditions here, rubber trees grow well, giving high latex productivity. From the successful planting of the first rubber trees, new rubber plantations have been planted up to thousands of hectares in all the provinces of the Southeast.
By 1980, this first rubber garden officially stopped tapping latex. In 1998, Dong Nai Rubber Corporation One Member Limited Liability Company decided to build a conservation rubber garden, set up a guard post and have its own monitoring and care regime.
This ancient tree garden was assigned to An Loc Rubber Farm under the Corporation for management and care. By 2009, the preserved rubber garden had become a provincial historical relic.
Inside the garden, there are many ancient rubber trees with diameters ranging from 1 to 3 meters and heights of tens of meters. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions and long life, many trees have rotted, become hollow, and broken.
In the middle of the garden, in 2015, Dong Nai Rubber Corporation restored the original house of rubber workers during the French colonial period so that visitors, students and pupils could better understand the traditional historical value of the industry.
The original house of a rubber worker during the French colonial period is preserved at the 118-year-old Rubber Conservation Garden in Dong Nai.
According to An Loc Rubber Farm, after the development and conservation process, up to now, the garden still has 224 118-year-old trees growing well out of a total of 1,000 trees planted on a trial basis.
To facilitate conservation and care, the unit has numbered each tree in the garden.
Mr. Doan Van Dung, a rubber tapping worker at An Loc Rubber Farm, said that his main daily job is tapping rubber. For the past two years, he has been assigned to take care of the conservation garden.
Every month, when it's time to take care of the garden, he is mobilized by the farm to cut grass, search for and detect diseases on the rubber trees in the garden.
“The rubber trees in the garden are all very old. Many of them have hollow trunks but are still alive. Therefore, we must take good care of them and pay attention to early detection of diseases on the trees to promptly treat and save them,” said Mr. Doan Van Dung.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang, Technical Team Leader of An Loc Rubber Farm, said that since the rubber garden was no longer exploited for economic value, the Corporation has had a policy of caring for and preserving the garden.
Every month and every quarter, the Farm regularly carries out protection and inspection work to avoid cases of people cutting down or buffaloes and cows destroying.
At the same time, the unit regularly arranges workers to cut grass and clean up to create a cool space to regularly welcome delegations of guests, students, and researchers to visit.

According to Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang, rubber trees often suffer from pink fungus disease that appears during the rainy season. This disease greatly affects the growth of the tree.
When detecting a disease, the caregiver must immediately spray the medicine on the detected areas to limit the spread and treat the disease in the plant.
Therefore, during the rainy season, workers are highly concentrated, regularly visit the garden, and clean up to limit the incidence of plant diseases.
In addition, rubber trees are also at risk of powdery mildew on leaves from January to March every year. This disease does not pose much danger to the tree. When the tree is infected, its leaves will fall off; then new leaves will grow back.
Mr. Nguyen Tuan Quang said that in the coming time, the Farm and the Corporation will continue to preserve the garden by directly taking care of it, avoiding outsiders from destroying the garden; regularly checking and cleaning, limiting the risk of fire causing damage to the garden.Source: https://danviet.vn/day-la-khu-rung-la-liet-co-thu-noi-tieng-nhat-dat-dong-nai-cay-cao-su-nao-cung-danh-so-tren-than-20250105145728258.htm
