Construction effort 3 shifts, 4 crews

The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board (project investor) said that along the entire project route, contractors mobilized 35 construction teams with nearly 600 workers and more than 200 vehicles and equipment to ensure progress.

Immediately after the Ministry of Construction launched a 90-day and night peak period to speed up construction progress and disburse public investment capital, expanding the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway to 4 lanes, the entire project entered the sprint competition phase.

At the construction site of the bridge at Km 35 + 540, although the outdoor temperature in some places is approximately 40 degrees Celsius, there are still more than 150 workers urgently working.

Mr. Le Phuc Hien, Commander of Bridge Construction Company 75 (the contractor for the bridge project at Km 35 + 540) said: “The unit is mobilizing all human resources, working overtime to speed up the progress, in preparation for the upcoming storm season. On all bridges, the contractor has workers working simultaneously. Particularly for the bridge at Km 35 + 540, the unit will divide it into 3 main tasks: pouring beams, bored piles, and arranging piers…”.

At the 66km long construction site connecting Hue city and Da Nang , hundreds of workers, engineers and heavy machinery are working in 3 shifts and 4 teams to bring the project to completion soon.

Engineer Le Van Tu, a technical officer of Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (a joint venture contractor), said that the weather has been extremely hot recently, but everyone has overcome all difficulties and is determined to complete the construction of the road on schedule.

Mr. Hoang Trong Quang, construction supervisor, said that at each construction site there are from 40 to 60 people depending on the time. Currently, due to the nature of the project, which involves both construction and ensuring traffic safety, each construction site must have signs, markers, signal lights, and guards at both ends.

One of the highlights of the project is that in addition to the 12 existing bridges with 4 lanes that will be maintained, 50 other bridges will be expanded or newly built to achieve a synchronous scale. Currently, the construction of 50 bridges on the route is being accelerated.

As of mid-August 2025, many important projects have made significant progress. Several major bridges on the route have completed bored piles and are entering the construction phase of pedestals, pier bodies, and preparing for girder placement...

Mr. Duong Duc Nam, supervision consultant of Tecco Company, in charge of supervising from Km 21 to Km 66 of the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway expansion project, said that the bridge at Km 35 + 540 has a total length of 822m, which is the longest bridge of the project. Because the bridge is quite high, the entire bridge is on a curve, and the construction is next to an operating road and the weather is unfavorable, the construction unit has encountered some difficulties, however, the contractor is still trying to complete the construction, ensuring the schedule.

Creating momentum for socio-economic development

The La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway was put into operation in April 2022 with a scale of 2 lanes. The route significantly reduces the load on National Highway 1 but also poses potential traffic safety risks due to the narrow road surface and lack of a hard median strip.

On May 29, 2025, the La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway expansion project officially started with a total investment of more than 3,000 billion VND, aiming to expand the road surface to 4 complete lanes, with a 22m wide roadbed. Immediately after the groundbreaking ceremony, contractors mobilized maximum machinery, equipment and human resources, quickly constructing the entire route.

Then, on June 20, the Ministry of Construction officially launched a 90-day and night peak period to compete in construction, disbursement, and completion of more than 1,000 billion VND of work volume by September 2025.

According to the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, the La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway expansion project has a short construction period of about 8 months. Meanwhile, the route is both in operation and under construction, and the terrain is complex, so in addition to completing the progress, the project must ensure construction quality, labor safety, traffic safety and environmental sanitation.

It is known that to support the implementation process, the Ministry of Construction also assigned specialized agencies to closely monitor the scene, provide guidance, and promptly resolve problems. Supervision consultants must increase specialized human resources and closely coordinate with investors and contractors to strictly control the quality and safety of the project.

The investment in expanding the North-South expressway in the east, La Son - Hoa Lien section, aims to gradually complete the traffic infrastructure according to the planning, ensuring synchronization and modernity. At the same time, it will improve the exploitation capacity, reduce traffic accidents to promote the role of the North-South expressway in the east in connecting localities; ensure national defense and security in the region and the whole country.

The project was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 348 dated April 27, 2024, and the Ministry of Construction approved the investment in Decision No. 1492 dated December 6, 2024. The project has a starting point at Km0, connecting to the end point of the Cam Lo - La Son expressway, in La Son town, Hue city; the end point at Km66, Da Nang city (Hoa Lien intersection) connecting to the starting point of the Hoa Lien - Tuy Loan route.

When completed, the project will not only improve exploitation capacity and reduce traffic accidents, but also strengthen connectivity, creating momentum for socio-economic development for the entire Central region, meeting people's expectations.
