For many years, Ho Sao’s family in Khe Day village, Truong Son commune has been on the list of poor households. Without a stable job, the whole family depends on a few fields of rice. Living from hand to mouth, Sao never dared to think about building a solid house for himself.

Sympathizing with his family's difficult situation, the local government approved Ho Sao to receive support to build new houses under the National Target Program (NTP) for socio -economic development in the ethnic minority and mountainous regions for the period 2021-2025.

Mr. Ho Sao shared that, with the support and facilitation of the State, he borrowed more money to build a new, spacious and solid house on the old land left by his parents. From now on, his family no longer has to worry about avoiding the rain and wind every rainy and stormy season. With a new, solid house, family members can stabilize their lives and feel secure in working and producing.

Each house built and repaired not only helps people have a solid place to live but also brings new hope in life. In the new spacious house built thanks to the joint efforts of the community, Ms. Ho Thi Met, Khe Ngang village, Truong Son commune, emotionally shared: “Previously, due to difficult family circumstances, the whole family had to live in a dilapidated house, hot in the summer, and water leaked all over the house in the rainy season. With the State's support of 60 million VND, I borrowed more to build a solid house. Although life is still difficult, thanks to the encouragement and sharing of the Party Committee, authorities at all levels and the villagers, I feel very warm-hearted”.

The whole political system is involved.

Truong Son is a mountainous border commune with special difficulties. The whole commune has 8,484 people, of which Bru-Van Kieu people account for nearly 50% of the population. Thanks to the attention and care of authorities at all levels, the lives of ethnic minorities in Truong Son are increasingly improved.

Chairman of Truong Son Commune People's Committee Hoang Manh Ha said that ethnic minorities in the commune are supported to build houses through 3 programs: National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minorities and Mountainous Areas for the 2021-2025 period; Program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for poor and near-poor households and housing support project for people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of martyrs.

After establishing the steering committee, the commune reviewed households eligible for support to promptly implement; mobilized the participation of socio-political organizations in propaganda work, mobilizing the community's support to help poor and near-poor households build houses.

The locality has worked with villages, hamlets and households to start construction of houses on schedule. In addition, the commune has established 5 inspection teams to monitor the implementation of new construction and house repairs in accordance with regulations.

During the implementation process, the commune has done a good job of disseminating information to the people, reviewing the subjects eligible for support, the current housing status, the needs of households, promoting democracy, and following the guiding process. The construction of houses for poor households and ethnic minorities ensures the right standards and progress, and is supported by the people. People are proactive in providing funding, materials, etc. to ensure the requirements on area and quality of housing.

In 2025, through capital from the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of the Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Regions for the 2021-2025 period and support funds from Vingroup , houses were built for 100 households in Truong Son commune (each house was supported with 120 million VND); 310 houses were built for poor and near-poor households under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses (each house was supported with 90 million VND); 11 houses were built for people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of martyrs in the area (each newly built house was supported with 80 million VND).

During the implementation process, many socio-political organizations and philanthropists donated money and goods to support disadvantaged households in Truong Son commune. Before merging the two-level government, Quang Ninh district (old) allocated 800 million VND to Truong Son commune from contributions from cadres, party members, civil servants, employees, workers, soldiers of the armed forces, people from all walks of life, agencies, units, organizations, businesses, and philanthropists in the area. This money will be used to provide additional funding for families in especially difficult circumstances to build new and repair houses.

Up to now, Truong Son commune has basically eliminated temporary and dilapidated houses in the area. Thanks to the good organization of housing construction for people in the ethnic minority areas, helping poor households have safe, stable housing, with the ability to withstand the impact of natural disasters, it has contributed to improving the quality of life and sustainable poverty reduction in the area.
