Ho Chi Minh City leaders presented gifts to disadvantaged households on January 15th.

Mr. Bui Minh Suu, from Hiep Binh Chanh ward, Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City), said that his wife passed away from illness 8 years ago, leaving him to raise his son, who is in high school, and care for his nearly 80-year-old mother alone, making life very difficult. However, Mr. Suu has not given up on his fate; every day he diligently loads and unloads goods at the Thu Duc wholesale agricultural market. Recently, he received Tet gifts from the Fatherland Front and other organizations, including rice, banh chung (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes), fish sauce, vegetables, and a sum of money. “This is the first time I’ve received support. No matter how difficult life is, I will not give up, always striving for a better life and raising my children to be successful. These Tet gifts are a great encouragement for me and my family to continue to have faith in the future,” Mr. Suu expressed.

Ms. Tran Thi Tu, a worker at Consumer Vietnam Co., Ltd. in VSIP 1 Industrial Park ( Binh Duong ), said that this year's work hasn't been smooth, with few orders, resulting in unstable income. Her husband works as a ride-hailing motorbike driver, and they have to support two young children – their eldest daughter in 6th grade and their second son in 3rd grade – making daily expenses quite difficult. Recently, the People's Committee and the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Binh Duong province, in coordination with various organizations, distributed Tet gifts and 2 million VND. “This year, my family is staying in our rented room. I will use the subsidy to buy new clothes for my children and some extra gifts to celebrate Tet. Although I can't go back to my hometown to celebrate Tet with my relatives, I feel the warmth of the Tet holiday thanks to the care and attention from the agencies and organizations,” Ms. Tu shared.

Mr. Nguyen Van Trung (Tan Hiep Ward, Bien Hoa City, Dong Nai Province) said that his family moved south from Nghe An province 5 years ago. For almost 2024, his wife was unemployed, and her health was poor, requiring frequent hospital visits. Mr. Trung was the only worker, and his family of four relied solely on his monthly salary of just over 10 million VND. Mr. Trung shared his joy at receiving the Tet gifts and financial support from the Bien Hoa City Labor Union.

Along with the rest of the country, Ho Chi Minh City continues to implement many activities to care for people during Tet (Lunar New Year), most notably the "Spring of Solidarity - Tet of Compassion" program, organized in coordination with the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City. This program includes many meaningful activities such as: "Tet Reunion," "Tet of Compassion"; "Zero-Cost Transportation," "Spring for Soldiers," "Spring of Love"; and the distribution of Tet gifts, bus tickets, train tickets, etc., to people with meritorious service, union members, association members, vulnerable people, and those in difficult circumstances. The program, running from now until the end of the 27th day of the 12th lunar month, will distribute over 200,000 gifts with a total value of over 110 billion VND to the people. Of this amount, the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City will contribute over 26 billion VND, equivalent to over 26,600 gifts; commune-level organizations will contribute over 41 billion VND; and district-level organizations will contribute over 43 billion VND.

Mr. Pham Minh Tuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, shared that to effectively implement the program, the city's Fatherland Front proactively coordinated with agencies and organizations to develop a plan very early on to review and compile a list of people who need care, with the spirit of "Unity, safety, joy, and economy".

According to Mr. Tuan, during the Lunar New Year of the Snake 2025, the city will organize the "Spring of Unity - Tet of Compassion" festival in more than 270 residential areas. Each ward, commune, and town will select one residential area to organize Tet-themed activities such as: decorating "Street Corners for Tet - Spring of the Snake 2025"; cultural and artistic activities; a communal meal, making banh chung and banh tet (traditional Vietnamese rice cakes)... creating a joyful, warm, and united atmosphere in the community.

According to Mr. Nguyen Loc Ha, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Duong province, for the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake 2025, Binh Duong will allocate nearly 210 billion VND, including nearly 162 billion VND from the provincial budget and over 48 billion VND from the district budget, an increase of more than 18% compared to 2024, to support over 172,000 beneficiaries. The province has organized delegations to visit and present gifts to families of revolutionary martyrs; social welfare beneficiaries; children with special difficulties; poor and near-poor households; and centers, units, and mass organizations in the province.

In addition, the Red Cross, the Children's Protection Fund, and socio -political organizations in Binh Duong province also mobilized organizations and individuals to participate in caring for disadvantaged people in the province during Tet, ensuring that everyone can celebrate Tet happily and warmly.

For workers, trade unions at all levels will organize many activities to care for union members and workers during the Lunar New Year of the Year of the Snake, such as: providing financial support to approximately 50,000 disadvantaged workers with a total amount of 50 billion VND; it is expected that during this year's Tet holiday, trade unions at all levels in the province will provide Tet care for union members and workers with a total budget of over 272 billion VND. "The province will continue to direct all levels and sectors to coordinate and organize activities to ensure that all vulnerable groups are well cared for," Mr. Ha emphasized.
