Proposal for educational institutions to support students affected by Typhoon Yagi

The Ministry of Education and Training has just issued Official Dispatch No. 5458/BGDĐT-GDCTHSSV to universities and colleges of education regarding the implementation of support measures for students affected by storm No. 3.

The document stated: Recently, many localities across the country, especially the northern provinces, have suffered heavy losses in property and lives caused by storm No. 3; including students and their families.

The Ministry of Education and Training highly appreciates the spirit of mutual love and support, the proactiveness in mobilizing resources, joining hands with the whole country to support compatriots and localities to overcome the consequences ofstorms and floods of universities and pedagogical colleges.

To continue supporting students affected by storms and floods to stabilize their studies soon, the Ministry of Education and Training recommends that universities and pedagogical colleges pay attention to and prioritize allocating resources to exempt and reduce tuition fees and have financial support policies suitable to each student's circumstances.

At the same time, instruct students to contact local authorities to request confirmation of family's sudden financial difficulties to apply for credit loans and support for studying.

Storm No. 3 (Yagi) and its circulation caused serious damage to people and property in many northern mountainous provinces and the Red River Delta. The education sector also suffered very heavy damage to people and property.

Statistics so far show that a total of 67 students were injured or killed, including: 3 teachers, 52 students, children died, 1 teacher, 3 students are missing and 8 students were injured.

Total damage to facilities and teaching equipment is estimated at over 1,260 billion VND; more than 41,500 textbooks were damaged.

Previously, the Ministry of Education and Training directed localities to continue focusing on reviewing and assessing damage, synthesizing reports to propose competent authorities to support funding to overcome the consequences caused by storms and floods.
