Trump's Gaza proposal faces strong opposition

Công LuậnCông Luận27/01/2025

(CLO) US President Donald Trump's proposal to relocate hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from Gaza has caused a wave of strong opposition from US allies, including Jordan and Egypt.

Both countries have rejected the idea of taking in refugees from Gaza, insisting that they will not participate in any relocation plan.

Mr Trump has previously suggested that millions of Palestinians could be relocated temporarily or permanently to neighboring countries, such as Jordan and Egypt, which have taken in millions of refugees in the past.

“I would rather join with some of the Arab countries and build homes in another location where they can live in peace ,” Mr. Trump said.

However, both Jordan and Egypt have spoken out and clearly stated their stance of not accepting Palestinians. Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi affirmed that his country firmly rejects any relocation.

Human rights groups and lawyers say Mr Trump's proposal could lead to the expulsion of an ethnic community from their homeland, making the situation in Gaza worse.

Trump’s proposal is not only contrary to current Israeli policy, but also impractical. Hebrew University professor Barak Medina said that the forced relocation of Palestinians is a violation of international law and an unrealistic plan when no country is willing to accept refugees from Gaza.

Meanwhile, Hamas officials and Palestinian leaders have insisted that Gazans will not leave their homeland. Mustafa Barghouti, a senior Palestinian politician, has completely rejected Trump’s proposal, saying the Palestinian people will continue to fight for their rights and their land.
