According to the document sent by the Hanoi Department of Transport to the Hanoi People's Committee reporting on the pilot plan for organizing dedicated bicycle lanes, based on a survey of the current traffic infrastructure, the Hanoi Department of Transport has selected two suitable routes to organize a pilot bicycle lane.

According to the plan, the Department of Transport will create dedicated or priority lanes for bicycles, so that vehicles can travel safely and conveniently. At the same time, the selected pilot route will connect with public passenger transport systems such as urban railways, buses, and public bicycle stations.

The first route selected for pilot is the road along To Lich River (from Nga Tu So to Cau Giay). The route is built on the basis of adjusting the pedestrian-only road along Lang Street with a length of 2,300m and a width of 4m.

The walking route along the To Lich River will be adjusted into a bicycle and pedestrian path.

The walking route along the To Lich River will be adjusted into a bicycle and pedestrian path.

The Department of Transport will change the route from pedestrian to bicycle and walking. The two-way bicycle path is 3m wide, located close to the river bank; the pedestrian path is 1m wide.

The route has the potential to connect with Lang Station of the Cat Linh – Ha Dong railway line No. 2A and Station No. 8 of the Nhon – Hanoi Railway Station Metro line via a shared bicycle path on Lang Street.

Along with that, adding 6 public bicycle stations along the route at the bus stop area will create the ability to connect with the bus routes of Lang road.

Pilot route No. 2 - the road around Hoa Binh Park and Hoang Minh Thao Street. Through the survey, the sidewalk around Hoa Binh Park is 1817m long, 7m wide, enough to organize a priority bicycle lane to serve the park's activities as well as connect with other routes.

According to the plan, to build a bicycle lane in Hoa Binh Park area, it is necessary to repair the sidewalk, create a priority lane for two-way traffic on the sidewalk, 3m wide.

At the same time, Hoang Minh Thao Street will organize traffic exclusively for bicycles on the basis of the existing mixed lanes. The bicycle lane is 2m wide on each side, the remaining lane for motorbikes and non-motorized vehicles is 4.5m.

From Hoang Minh Thao, there is the possibility of expanding the network of bicycle lanes through the routes being formed such as Xuan Tao, Minh Tao, etc. The Department of Transport adds 4 public bicycle locations around Hoa Binh Park to increase the ability to connect and transfer bicycles with public passenger transport vehicles.

Two pilot routes dedicated to bicycles will be a highly anticipated experiment for the people, aiming to perfect the public transport system of the capital.
