ANTD.VN - In just over 24 hours, the winners of the VinFuture Awards with a total value of 4.5 million USD will be officially revealed at the world's largest Science and Technology Awards Ceremony taking place on the evening of December 20 in Hanoi . With the theme "Global Cooperation", this year's VinFuture Awards affirms its international prestige by gathering 1,389 nominations from more than 90 countries and territories, 3 times more than the first season.
Affirming prestige and stature in the global scientific community
With its reputation confirmed through the first two seasons, VinFuture 2023 has attracted a record number of nominations, with 1,389 science and technology projects from more than 90 countries and territories - a number rarely achieved by any major award in the world . Prof. Albert P. Pisano, Co-Chairman of the VinFuture Preliminary Council, assessed that this is a testament to the growing stature and influence of the first global science and technology award initiated by Vietnamese people.
“ It seems that the entire global scientific community has recognized the value of the VinFuture Prize . Not only that, this year, the number of high-quality nominations is also the largest ever . Our pressure is also enormous because we have to select the most outstanding works from all the promising candidates , ” said the Co-Chairman of the VinFuture Preliminary Council.

Professor Teck-Seng Low, Senior Vice President at the National University of Singapore (NUS), a member of the Queen Elizabeth Prize Council (UK), also assessed the number of more than 1,300 nominations that VinFuture received in the third season as "very surprising". He believes that the appeal and influence of an international award does not simply lie in the value of the award.
“The most important thing is the prestige of the award,” the NUS professor emphasized.
From the perspective of the "judge" of the VinFuture Prize right from the first season, Prof. Pisano said that there are many awards in the world in the fields of science, technology, engineering... but what makes VinFuture very special is that the Prize evaluates and recognizes the impacts that science and technology creators bring to society and to everyone. The great ideas selected and honored by VinFuture can come from anywhere, not just from developed countries.
“VinFuture is a great example of how a country can be small in size, but with a big heart, tolerance, and an open vision, it can bring about very positive changes to the world,” Professor Pisano explained about VinFuture’s global appeal.

Positioning Vietnam as a new destination for global science and technology
This year’s VinFuture Prize has the theme “Global Cooperation”, a humane and contemporary theme, encouraging inventors to go beyond conventional limits to create new developments in science and technology, joining hands to solve urgent problems that humanity is facing. Thanks to that, more people and more communities around the world will benefit from the achievements that science and technology brings.
“With this year’s theme being ‘That Global Together’, the challenge is not to find a single winner or someone who is simply the best in their field. Rather, it is to find and demonstrate the signals that their solutions will be the best for millions of people around the world,” said Prof. Pisano.
This year's Awards system still includes 4 categories, of which the Main Prize worth 3 million USD is one of the most valuable awards in the world. In addition, there are 3 Special Prizes worth 500,000 USD each for female scientists, scientists from developing countries and scientists researching new fields.

In the current context, there are very few large-scale, valuable awards to honor and encourage scientists in developing countries or those facing many barriers in research, VinFuture is considered an award of humanistic significance and a driving force for the development of science and technology globally.
“The VinFuture Prize is a model for encouraging creativity and innovation from developing countries,” said Professor Soumitra Dutta, University of Oxford (UK), Member of the VinFuture Prize Council.
According to experts, VinFuture is also a special bridge between world science and technology and Vietnam. This assessment was clearly demonstrated during the visit and working session of the world's leading scientists with the Ministry of Science and Technology on December 18, right before the VinFuture Award Ceremony. Here, Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized that this is an important premise, creating conditions for connection and long-term cooperation between the Ministry of Science and Technology - VinFuture - the world's leading scientists and professors in the future. The scientists affirmed their readiness to cooperate with Vietnam to solve global issues and promote the development of science and technology and innovation, sustainable socio-economic development in Vietnam.
By bringing together the world's outstanding minds to Vietnam to identify and find solutions to the challenges facing humanity, VinFuture not only helps position Vietnam as a new destination for global science and technology but also contributes to changing the way the world perceives Vietnam as well as the position of developing countries.
