Mr. Pham Thai Son, Director of Admissions at Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade, assessed that the 2025 score distribution demonstrates good differentiation, consistent with the university's admissions goals.
The highest score was 1,060/1,200, with only 142 candidates achieving 1,000 points or more. Meanwhile, the lowest score was 40 points, indicating a significant disparity in ability among the candidates.
Compared to 2024, the average score this year decreased by about 25 points, from 643.4 to 618.4. This is due to the 2025 exam being adjusted according to the 2018 General Education Program, with an increased number of questions focusing on critical thinking and reading comprehension.
Mr. Son predicted that the cut-off scores for highly competitive majors such as International Business, Marketing, and Information Technology will continue to remain high. Majors such as Food Technology, Business Administration, and Accounting are expected to have slightly lower scores.
According to Mr. Phung Quan, a consultant from the University of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City, this year schools will have to convert competency assessment scores to the same scale as the high school graduation exam.
Therefore, admission also depends on graduation scores and other admission methods. However, candidates who achieve high scores in the aptitude test will have a good competitive advantage.
Mr. Cu Xuan Tien, Head of the Admissions Department at the University of Economics and Law, commented that the score range in 2025 was slightly lower than in previous years, but the breadth of the score range was larger, indicating good classification ability.
Although the percentage of candidates scoring above 600 points decreased by about 12% compared to last year, due to the significant increase in the total number of candidates (over 34%), the number of candidates scoring above 600 points still increased by nearly 10,000.
Given this situation, Mr. Tien predicts that the cut-off scores for lower-ranked majors may remain the same or decrease slightly, while those for top-ranked majors will increase slightly. However, the fluctuations will depend on the enrollment quota and the number and quality of applicants.
Mr. Tien advised candidates to carefully research how points are converted and the priority point policies of each school, thereby developing the most effective and appropriate application strategy.
