The benchmark scores of all blocks with Math subject have decreased.

Sharing with VietNamNet , Master Cu Xuan Tien, Head of Admissions and Student Affairs Department, University of Economics and Law, commented that the score distribution of high school graduation exams has a clearer differentiation than previous years. This creates favorable conditions for universities and colleges in selecting candidates for admission based on graduation exam scores.

All subjects had a significant decrease in average scores compared to 2024 (only Physics increased slightly and the number of candidates scoring 10 increased dramatically from 55 to 3,929). Surprisingly, the average score for Mathematics decreased sharply, the score spectrum was skewed to the left, with 56.4% of candidates scoring below average, and only about 12% of candidates scoring 7 points or higher.

On the contrary, the English exam was also difficult, but the score distribution results were quite surprising with an average score of 5.38, the percentage of candidates below the average score (<5) decreased by about 4.5% compared to 2024, the score distribution graph was very beautiful, showing clear differentiation. This is because English is an elective subject, leading to a decrease in the number of students registering. At the same time, most of the students who chose English determined that this is a subject they are good at and have a competitive advantage when applying to universities and colleges.

From this reality, Mr. Tien believes that this year's benchmark scores will tend to decrease significantly compared to last year. Majors with admission combinations related to Math, English, and Chemistry will have their benchmark scores decrease more than the remaining combinations.

Specifically, the A00 and A01 combinations have seen a sharp decrease in Math scores, so the benchmark scores for engineering and technology majors are likely to decrease by 1 to 2 points.

In block B00, with the average scores of Math, Chemistry and Biology all decreasing, the benchmark scores for medicine and natural sciences will also decrease by 1.5-2.5 points.

With block C00, the subjects Literature, History, and Geography remain stable, so the benchmark scores may fluctuate little, decrease slightly, or remain the same.

In blocks D01 and D07, Math and English scores did not increase, so the expected benchmark score will also decrease by 1 to 2 points.

Block B00 has no recruitment crisis but benchmark scores have dropped sharply

From this year's score distribution, according to Mr. Tien, the number of candidates scoring 7 points or more in each subject in the B00 group (Math - Chemistry - Biology) has decreased significantly compared to 2024. This leads to a significant decrease in the recruitment source for this group - the group of good students. With this recruitment source, this year's benchmark scores for majors related to this group will decrease sharply. Particularly, hot majors such as medicine, pharmacy, and dentistry at top schools will decrease sharply compared to 2024.

However, according to Mr. Tien, the B00 block will not have a crisis in recruitment sources, because firstly, Biology and Chemistry are two elective subjects this year (last year, if you chose the Natural Science exam, you were required to take Physics, Chemistry, and Biology). If you choose these two subjects, it is almost certain that these are your strengths and will be used for university admission. Therefore, the number of candidates registering for this subject in 2025 will decrease significantly compared to 2024.

Second, currently, most schools recruit students with many different methods for the same major. Therefore, the recruitment sources for these majors will be supplemented by methods such as: direct admission, priority direct admission, consideration of test results to assess capacity, assessment of thinking, consideration of combined conditional transcripts, etc.

The benchmark score of University of Economics and Law has decreased sharply.

This year, the University of Economics and Law will recruit 6 groups including: A00, A01, D07, X25, X26, of which the groups X25 and X26 are new compared to 2024. Because there are 2 main subjects for recruitment, Math and English, the expected benchmark score this year will decrease by about 0.5-1.5 compared to 2024.

Hot majors such as International Business, E-commerce, International Economics, Marketing, Economic Law are often highly competitive and attract many candidates, so the reduction in standard scores will be less than other majors. On the contrary, new majors/specializations such as Civil Law (English); Applied Mathematics in Economics, Management and Finance (English); Financial Technology (Co-operative Education Program); Management Information Systems (Co-operative Education Program) will bring many opportunities when candidates choose.

Mr. Tien said that the school's admissions board is analyzing and considering adjusting the difference in admission scores for the groups to ensure the rights of candidates. In addition, this year the school allows candidates with international English certificates to choose between converting them into English scores in the admission group or adding bonus points to the total score of the admission group. Candidates only need to submit proof of this English certificate on the Ministry's admission registration portal, and the school's admissions software will automatically calculate the optimal solution for candidates.

Mr. Tien advised that this year's score distribution of subjects/combinations tends to decrease, but candidates should not be too worried. Because with the new admission regulations, early admission has been eliminated this year, all methods must be considered simultaneously (no separate quotas), with equivalent conversion of admission scores, so the chance of admission by considering high school graduation exam scores will be higher than in 2024.
