This year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (VNU-HCM) uses 95-99% of its enrollment quota for the comprehensive admission method. This admission method applies to 8 groups of candidates with corresponding training programs.
The standard program, taught and learned in English, advanced, oriented towards Japan, recruits the following candidates: Subject 1 - with the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's 2025 competency assessment exam; Subject 2 - without the results of the Ho Chi Minh City National University's 2025 competency assessment exam; Subject 3 - graduated from a foreign high school program; Subject 4 - graduated from a Vietnamese high school program, using an international admission certificate.
The international transfer program recruits candidates in category 5 - planning to study abroad under the international transfer program to Australia, the US, and New Zealand.
International Bachelor of Engineering joint program between the University of Technology and the University of Technology Sydney UTS (Australia), admitting 3 candidates: group 6 - graduated from Vietnamese high school program; group 7 - graduated from foreign high school program; group 8 - using SAT I international admission certificate.
Specific regulations on input quality assurance threshold
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology announced the threshold to ensure input quality (minimum admission score) of the comprehensive admission method is 50 points (on a 100-point scale). This threshold applies to all candidates participating in the admission process. In addition to the above general admission score threshold, the school also sets its own threshold with a number of specific criteria.
Candidates using international admission certificates (subject 3, subject 4 and subject 5) must have an international admission certificate valid for 2 years, meeting one of the following conditions: SAT I from 1,184 points; ACT from 24 points; IB (International Baccalaureate) from 26 points; A-Level from C or higher. In case candidates use international certificates not on the above list, the admissions board will consider and evaluate each case specifically.
Candidates who have graduated from a foreign high school program (subject 7) must have a valid international diploma/certificate that meets one of the following conditions: ATAR from 75 points; GCE A-Level from 8 points; IB (International Baccalaureate) from 26 points or Predicted IB from 31 points; SAT I (USA) from 1,120 points; ACT from 21 points; BC from 74 points; OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) from 74 points; French Baccalauréat from 11.4 points.
The school also stipulates English entry standards for candidates applying for the following programs: advanced, taught and learned in English, international transfer to Australia/USA/New Zealand. Specifically, the minimum requirement is IELTS 6.0 Academic/ TOEFL iBT 79/ TOEIC Listening - Reading 730, Speaking - Writing 280. In case the candidate achieves IELTS Academic 5.5/ TOEFL iBT 60/ TOEIC Listening - Reading 590 and Speaking - Writing 230/ Duolingo 95/ Linguaskill and FCE 167/ PTE 42/ CAE 180, the school will consider temporary admission and must complete the additional English standard requirement within 1 semester. The school notes that it only accepts international academic English certificates.
English entry standards for candidates applying for the international bachelor of engineering (TNE) joint program, candidates must meet a valid English entry standard that meets one of the following conditions: IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (Writing score from 6.0); TOEFL iBT: 79 (Writing score from 21); Pearson PTE: 58 (Writing score from 50); Cambridge C1A/C2P: 176 (Writing score from 169); UTS College AE5: Pass.

Comprehensive admission method of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, with admission scores calculated 100 point scale, calculated by the following formula:

*Academic score on a 100-point scale is calculated as follows:
(Academic score) = (Ability score) x 70% + (Converted high school graduation score) x 20% + (Converted high school study score) x 10%
*Bonus points are calculated as follows:
The total of bonus points, bonus points, and incentive points (collectively referred to as bonus points) for candidates with special achievements shall not exceed 10% of the maximum score of the admission scale (maximum 10 points on a scale of 100).
Candidates with [Academic score] + [Achievement bonus points] < 100 points: Bonus points = [Achievement bonus points]; Candidates with [Academic score] + [Achievement bonus points] ≥ 100 points: Bonus points = 100 - [Academic score].
In which, [Achievement bonus points] are considered from other achievements, literature-sports-arts, social activities: maximum 10 points, scale of 100 (decided by the admissions council depending on the number of applications and the candidates' achievements).
*Priority points are calculated as follows:
Candidates with [academic score] + [bonus points] < 75 points, priority points = [converted priority points].
Candidates have [academic score] + [bonus points] ≥ 75 points, priority points = (100 - [academic score] - [bonus points])/25 × [converted priority points] , rounded to 0.01.
In which, the priority points converted are calculated as follows: Priority points converted = [priority points (area, subject)]/3 x 10.
Maximum priority points converted to 9.17 points/100-point scale (converted from a maximum of 2.75 points/30-point scale according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training).
Candidates with IELTS Academic certificate ≥ 5.0/ TOEFL iBT ≥ 46/ TOEIC listening - reading ≥ 460 & speaking - writing ≥ 200 will be converted to the corresponding score of English subject in high school graduation exam score and high school transcript for admission combinations using English subject .
Last year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology stipulated that candidates applying to the school needed to achieve a capacity assessment score of 600/1,200, a high school graduation exam score of 18/30, and a high school study score of 54/90 (total score of 3 subjects according to the admission combination in 3 years of high school).
