Previously, on July 14, traffic in many areas of the Indian capital New Delhi was severely disrupted after the Yamuna River rose and the drainage system failed.
A day earlier, the Yamuna River rose to a 45-year high and flooded the capital, forcing authorities to evacuate people in some areas, shut down all schools, crematoriums and even water treatment plants.
Roads around the historic Red Fort were also flooded, with many trucks and buses abandoned everywhere, with only their windshields and roofs sticking out above the water.
The entire Mahatma Gandhi Memorial area adjacent to the Yamuna River was also submerged in floodwaters. Many private and government offices, including the police headquarters, were also flooded. Metro services were severely affected./.
