Dien Khanh: Towards building an ecological and traditional cultural urban area

With the advantages of natural conditions and a long history and culture, Dien Khanh district is oriented to develop into an ecological and traditional cultural urban area. To achieve the set goals, the district has been implementing many synchronous solutions, from planning to infrastructure investment; investing in and embellishing historical and cultural relics.

Ecological urban development

According to the Plan of the People's Committee of Dien Khanh district to implement the Action Program of the Government, the Provincial Party Committee and the District Party Committee to implement Resolution No. 09 of the Politburo on building and developing Khanh Hoa province to 2030, with a vision to 2045, the district strives to build Dien Khanh into a town by 2025 and gradually develop it into an ecological and traditional cultural urban area. In recent times, the implementation of Resolution No. 09 and national target programs in the district has created resources and conditions for investment, upgrading, and completing infrastructure, promoting socio-economic development, creating positive changes in many fields. The district has basically completed the criteria and is completing the procedures to request recognition as the first new rural district of the province in 2024. At the same time, focusing on reviewing and directing the implementation of steps to strive to become a town by 2025.

Mr. Nguyen Van Gam - Chairman of Dien Khanh District People's Committee said that in order to develop in the right direction, first of all, the district focuses on building and implementing well the planning and planning management in the area; calling for investment, encouraging households, individuals, and organizations to exploit types of eco-tourism. In addition, focusing on investing in developing economic and social infrastructure, especially a synchronous and modern transportation system... According to the Project to Adjust the General Planning of Dien Khanh Urban Area to 2040, which has just been approved by the Provincial People's Committee, Dien Khanh urban area develops according to a mixed, concentrated model, the core of which is the current Dien Khanh town with the cultural center being the Ancient Citadel area spreading out around. Dien Khanh is divided into 7 urban sub-regions, each region has its own development orientation suitable to its characteristics in order to maximize the potential and advantages of each region. In particular, the administrative center of the district is also the center of commercial services, tourism, associated with the cultural - historical values, and typical human ecology of Dien Khanh. The area north of Cai River is a space for developing tourism services associated with cultural - historical values, and agricultural ecology. At the same time, developing clean agriculture and farm economy to promote the development of rural residential areas, creating craft villages in the suburbs. This place is oriented to develop experiential eco-tourism, such as: Adventure mountain climbing; sightseeing, experiencing the landscape on Cai River; sightseeing of the countryside, visiting garden houses and traditional craft villages. The district will also upgrade, expand and exploit tourism services associated with the nature of Am Chua Lake area, especially associated with Am Chua relic site, which is oriented to be the main driving force for developing trade, services - tourism for the entire urban area...

Associated with preserving and promoting cultural values

Built in the 17th century under Lord Nguyen Anh, Dien Khanh Citadel with its unique architecture is a heritage of great historical, cultural and artistic value. Through many ups and downs, the citadel has been covered with moss over time and has been invested in restoration and embellishment many times, but has not yet been exploited effectively and sustainably. In December 2023, the Provincial People's Committee approved the feasibility study report on investment in the construction of the Dien Khanh Citadel Restoration and Rehabilitation Project with a budget of more than 166.8 billion VND to carry out the following items: Restoration and embellishment of the earthen rampart; construction of a new arch bridge across the moat in the north; improvement of the appearance of the bridges at the south gate, east gate and west gate; construction of many more items, such as: Small park, parking lot, public restroom area... The methodical restoration and embellishment will help this place become a cultural and tourist highlight of the locality.

It is known that Dien Khanh district currently has 5 national historical and cultural relics and 47 provincial relics. Preserving and promoting heritage values is considered a key task in the district's cultural development strategy. Therefore, along with the Citadel, Dien Khanh district has a plan to invest in and embellish cultural and tourist relics, such as: Upgrading and expanding the road from Huong Lo 5 to Am Chua relic site; planning to build a parking lot at Am Chua relic site; building a heritage road from Ponagar Tower to Am Chua connecting historical, cultural and spiritual relic sites...

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Gam, in the development process, the district always focuses on preserving and promoting the traditional revolutionary cultural values of the land and people here, associated with the development of community tourism, creating a driving force for socio-economic development. In addition, the district focuses on promoting folk cultural activities, such as: Am Chua Festival, Bai Choi art...; building a project to connect cultural values, restoring a number of cultural festivals and a project to restore the Dien Khanh Temple of Literature festival. Rural and traditional occupations of the district, such as: Nem cha, bronze casting, making vermicelli, rice paper, conical hat making... will continue to be maintained and developed, creating unique, high-quality products from local materials.
