Ahead of the clay court tournament in Spain, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray, "old rivals, new coaches", joined the coaching staff from November 2024, hoping to revive both their skills and mentality.
But recently, he unexpectedly lost to Alejandro Tabilo in the first round of the Monte-Carlo Masters, then lost to Jakub Mensik in the final of the Miami Open. The 37-year-old is eager to regain his form at the 2025 Madrid Open after a series of disappointing results.
During a tense practice session in Madrid, Djokovic suddenly expressed his frustration when a series of shots did not go as planned, causing him to exclaim: "F*** this sport, f*** tennis, f*** everything". This moment quickly spread on social media, making fans both worried and laughing. Many comments joked that Murray's "hot temper" was... infecting his juniors.

However, Djokovic is still very focused on the big goal: preparing for Roland Garros (opening on May 25) and Wimbledon. Sharing with Sky Sports, he said: "The top priority is to improve my game by one or two percent to be able to reach the top at Roland Garros. We arrived in Madrid early, spent many hours on the court and in the gym to perfect my body, improve my technique, tactics or anything that helps me play better."
Djokovic's opening match at the Madrid Open will be against Matteo Arnaldi (seeded No. 44) on April 26. He admitted that he did not have high expectations but hoped to get past the first round: "If we can overcome the first obstacle and regain a sense of stability, everything will be easier."
The tennis world and the media are currently following Djokovic's every move, not only because he wants to break the record of 24 Grand Slams but also because of his psychological and mental story after consecutive failures.
