University of Transport celebrates 35th anniversary of establishment of Branch in Ho Chi Minh City

(NLDO) - The branch of the University of Transport in Ho Chi Minh City has potential and a very important role in the innovation chain of the Southeast region.

On April 25, the University of Transport held a ceremony to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of Campus II (now the Branch in Ho Chi Minh City) with the participation of Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc emphasized that with its central location in the Southern key economic region, the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Transport has great potential and a very important role in the innovation chain of the Southeast region.

"The branch needs to position itself not only as a training facility, but also as an important link in the regional innovation ecosystem - a place connecting the state, schools, businesses and scientists .

It is necessary to promote the role of a focal point in organizing academic forums, international conferences, and applied research centers in strategic areas such as smart urban transport, sustainable transport technology, advanced construction techniques, new materials, digital technology in logistics and infrastructure operations..." - Deputy Minister Nguyen Van Phuc emphasized.

The Deputy Minister of Education and Training also assigned the Branch to continue improving the quality of training in a learner-centered manner, enhancing practical training, technology and soft skills, and expanding training programs associated with the needs of socio-economic development.

Actively integrate internationally and connect businesses, develop international linkage programs; promote business cooperation to organize training on demand, develop startup and innovation ecosystems.

In particular, it is necessary to participate more deeply in national and local tasks, proactively propose and implement research topics and application projects to serve sustainable development in large cities and key economic regions in the South; be a bridge of knowledge and technology between the University of Transport and the southern provinces.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Hung, Principal and Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Transport, emphasized that after 35 years of establishment and development, the Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Transport has become a prestigious and unique training, scientific research and technology transfer center, playing a core role in the school's development strategy in the Southern region.

On April 27, 1990, the Ministry of Education and Training signed a decision to establish Campus II of the University of Transport. In 2016, the Ministry of Education and Training decided to upgrade Campus II to a Branch of the University of Transport in Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, the Branch has 186 staff, civil servants and employees, including 135 lecturers with 5 associate professors and 32 doctors. The percentage of lecturers with postgraduate degrees is over 91%.

The Ho Chi Minh City Branch of the University of Transport has become a prestigious and unique training, scientific research and technology transfer center, playing a key role in the school's development strategy in the Southern region. Up to now, the Branch has expanded its training to 22 undergraduate and postgraduate majors with a scale of nearly 7,000 students and trainees.

Along with training, scientific research activities and effective technology transfer closely linked to practice.
