Established on January 22, 2020, the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation operates with the goal of maximizing resources, promoting strong development movements, improving people's health and lives, and enhancing its position and achievements in regional, continental and international arenas. During its first term (2020-2025), the Federation has achieved many outstanding achievements, creating a solid foundation for the development of this martial art in Vietnam.
Overview of the congress
During the first term of construction and development, the Federation has achieved significant results in terms of institutions and organization; Expanding scale and developing the movement; Training high-quality human resources; Developing professional tournaments; International integration; Financial autonomy.
Specifically, in terms of scale, in its first term, the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation has recruited nearly 1,000 members (including organizations and individuals), actively organized training, exchange and competition activities, contributing to the strong spread of the MMA movement across the country. Many MMA coaches and referees at all levels have been trained and certified. Vietnamese referees have participated in international training courses and achieved high results. Vietnamese athletes won 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals and 1 bronze medal at the first Asian MMA Championship.
The development of professional tournaments is continuously improved. The Lion Championship has been built and developed into a professional, classy tournament, attracting a large number of martial artists and audiences, creating the premise for the formation of a national ranking.
Also during the last term, the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation officially became a member of the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) and the Asian Mixed Martial Arts Association (AMMA).
In particular, Mixed Martial Arts has been officially included in the competition system of the Asian Youth Games (October 2025), ASIAD 20 (October 2026) and AIMAG 6 (December 2026).
At the congress, delegates contributed many comments to help promote work in the second term.
Term II is identified by the Federation as a pivotal period, with the common goal of consolidating and perfecting the organization, building a truly strong Federation, worthy of the National Sports Federation. The main orientations in the new term include: Perfecting the institution and enhancing management capacity; Promoting the development of the movement and members; Continuing to perfect the Law and Regulations of professional MMA, building the Lion Championship system to become a truly professional MMA tournament in Vietnam; Improving the quality of human resource training.
In particular, the most important task is to closely coordinate with the Vietnam Sports Department and the Vietnam Olympic Committee to select forces, train and participate in major sports events such as the Asian Games (Asiad), Asian Indoor Games and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG), Asian Youth Games, Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), gradually improving achievements and establishing a position in the regional and continental arenas.
Speaking at the Congress, Ms. Le Thi Hoang Yen, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department, affirmed that during the first term, in the context that the sports industry did not have a mixed martial arts department, most of the Executive Committee members worked part-time... but the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation was united, unified, and made efforts to build the movement, stabilize the organization, and was highly appreciated by management agencies, experts, and fans.
The Executive Committee of the second term was introduced to the congress.
Ms. Le Thi Hoang Yen suggested that in the second term, the Federation continue to focus on the Competition Law and related professional regulations as a legal basis for organizing, managing and developing mixed martial arts, while at the same time perfecting the organization, perfecting functions and tasks, promoting the training of coaches, referees and martial artists, and helping to develop the movement of practicing and competing in mixed martial arts tournaments at the grassroots level...
"With the achievements in the first term, the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department believes that the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Mixed Martial Arts Federation for the second term (2025 - 2030) trusted by the Congress will be a united, capable and dedicated collective to develop the movement, improve the achievements of Mixed Martial Arts, and make worthy contributions to the country's Sports and Physical Training career" - Ms. Le Thi Hoang Yen affirmed.
The Congress also elected a new Executive Committee of 27 members. The Standing Committee of the Federation for the second term consists of 7 members, including Mr. Ngo Duc Quynh as Chairman, Vice Chairmen including Mr. Dao Gia Bao, Mr. Vo Quoc Thang, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Cuong. Mr. Mai Thanh Ba holds the position of General Secretary. The Head of the Inspection Committee is Mr. Nguyen To An, the Deputy Head of the Committee is Mr. Nguyen Cong Tam. The Head of the Finance Committee is Mr. Vu Hai Quan.
