The 'golden' destination for high-tech agriculture from Dau Tieng Lake

Dau Tieng Lake - the largest artificial irrigation project in Southeast Asia, is not only a symbol of Vietnam's irrigation industry with multi-purpose exploitation, linking economic development, environmental protection and national security, but also a driving force for development of the entire Southeast region.

Dau Tieng Lake is more than 27km2 wide, with a capacity of 1.58 billion m3 of water, stretching across 3 provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc.

According to the People's Committee of Tay Ninh province, Dau Tieng lake is more than 27 km2 wide, with a capacity of 1.58 billion m3 of water, spanning the three provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Duong and Binh Phuoc, and plays a very important role in agriculture in the Southeast region. This is a particularly important project, related to national security.

With a canal system of more than 2,000 km, Dau Tieng Lake currently plays a strategic role in agricultural, industrial, daily life development, and flood regulation in the provinces of Tay Ninh, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Long An and Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, Dau Tieng Lake also plays an important role in protecting the ecological environment, maintaining the balance of the downstream ecosystem; at the same time, promoting the potential for developing ecotourism and renewable energy such as solar power, contributing to promoting green and sustainable economic development for the Southeast region.

In recent years, Dau Tieng Lake has attracted a large number of tourists because of its wild and poetic natural landscape. Activities such as camping, kayaking, fishing, trekking, visiting semi-flooded forests... are developing strongly, with the potential to become a key eco-tourism destination in the South.

Dau Tieng Lake is responsible for providing irrigation water for agriculture, production water for industry and daily life of people in neighboring provinces and cities.

Since Dau Tieng Lake was put into operation, Tay Ninh has made a dramatic change in agricultural development. According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Xuan, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh province, Tay Ninh has gradually formed a large specialized area, promoted production and consumption linkages, developed agricultural value chains and concentrated livestock farming. The province has shifted to clean, high-tech, circular agriculture - adapting to climate change, implementing modern models such as hydroponic vegetables, water-saving irrigation, closed-loop farming, and traceability.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dinh Xuan, the project in the western area of the Vam Co Dong River with a total length of 117.8 km and a total investment of more than 1,200 billion VND is not only a big boost for agricultural production but also brings positive changes to rural life.

Previously, the area west of the Vam Co Dong River, including the border districts of Chau Thanh and Ben Cau, often suffered from water shortages during the dry season. People and agricultural production depended mainly on tides and unstable natural water sources. However, this agricultural land has been transformed since the end of 2022, when Phase I of the Vam Co Dong River West Irrigation Project was completed.

Thanks to the water flow from Dau Tieng Lake across the Vam Co Dong River, 16,953 hectares of agricultural land in this area have been "unblocked", opening up opportunities to increase the number of crops, convert to high-value crops and improve people's livelihoods. Currently, phase II of the project with a budget of about 600 billion VND is being implemented, expected to continue to expand irrigation efficiency on a large scale.

Dau Tieng Lake is not only a symbol of Vietnam's irrigation industry but also a driving force for the development of the entire Southeast region.

From a stable water source, Tay Ninh not only develops traditional agriculture but also becomes a "golden destination" for high-tech agriculture. In particular, investment "eagles" such as De Heus Group (Netherlands) and Hung Nhon Group have chosen Tay Ninh as the place to deploy the DHN Tay Ninh high-tech agricultural complex chain with the leading scale in the region.

According to Mr. Vu Manh Hung, Chairman of Hung Nhon Group, thanks to abundant water resources, systematic planning and support from local authorities, Tay Ninh has created an attractive investment environment for modern agriculture, especially livestock and food processing.

Hung Nhon Group and De Heus (Netherlands) have cooperated to invest more than 2,500 billion VND in the DHN Tay Ninh high-tech agricultural complex chain. The project uses modern technology in a closed model from the hatchery, broiler farming, to the food processing factory for export, making an important contribution to the development of a green and circular economy.

Not only bringing economic value, these projects also promote sustainable agricultural development, contribute to the green - circular economic model, and create a foundation for Tay Ninh to grow strongly in the field of modern agriculture.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Ninh province, in order to maximize the efficiency of using water resources from the Dau Tieng irrigation system, in the coming time, the province will continue to invest in completing irrigation works in the area. The goal is to create growth momentum for the agricultural sector, promote crop restructuring, improve productivity and product quality, and strive to achieve an average harvested product value of 115 million VND/ha by 2025.

At the same time, the province also focuses on attracting investment, especially in the field of high-tech agriculture, to enhance the value chain of agricultural production. Promoting the application of science and technology, building a modern, closed production model not only helps increase productivity and quality of agricultural products but also creates competitiveness for Tay Ninh agricultural products in the domestic and international markets. Thereby, the province aims to develop green, sustainable agriculture, associated with environmental protection and increasing income for people.
