Linking with e-commerce platforms, expanding the market for OCOP products

The One Commune One Product (OCOP) program in Bac Lieu province has achieved many outstanding results in developing and affirming the brands of local products, contributing to promoting the rural economy and enhancing the value of the province's specialty products.

Bac Lieu OCOP products are linked with e-commerce platforms, supermarkets and trade promotion is of interest to expand the market.

According to Mr. Luu Hoang Ly, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Bac Lieu province, in recent times, to find outlets for OCOP products, the Provincial People's Committee has directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment (Standing Agency of the Provincial OCOP Program) to coordinate with relevant departments, branches and localities to strengthen the implementation of activities to introduce, promote and promote trade of OCOP products.


In particular, the unit has successfully signed cooperation agreements with provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi , the Southeast provinces, the Central Highlands and Ninh Binh province... on exchanging market information, promoting trade, connecting the consumption of agricultural products and goods between localities.

To date, Bac Lieu has 160 OCOP products recognized; of which, 32 products meet 4-star standards and 128 products meet 3-star standards. Currently, the Provincial People's Committee has sent 2 dossiers requesting the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to evaluate and classify 5-star products, namely Bac Lieu refined salt and Bac Lieu grain salt. Currently, 7 OCOP products have entered the domestic supermarket system, 9 products have export markets. Some OCOP entities of the province have booths to display, introduce and sell 20 OCOP products at GO! supermarket.

Especially with the advantage of having 3 production areas of salt, fresh water and brackish water, OCOP products of Bac Lieu province are quite rich and diverse. The stages of trade promotion and connection of OCOP product consumption have been implemented vigorously in recent times and achieved some positive results. Many OCOP products after recognition have increased rapidly in sales as well as gradually penetrated domestic and foreign markets... In addition, when participating in the OCOP Program, production entities are supported in introducing, promoting, promoting trade, connecting trade... so that many products from the OCOP program of Bac Lieu have been present in many provinces, cities and regions across the country. Many products have been exported to foreign markets.

 

In addition to the results of developing production capacity and expanding consumption markets, after participating in the OCOP program, many OCOP entities in the province have also developed quality management systems, OCOP star ratings, and boldly developed many products participating in the OCOP program. The production capacity of the entities has also increased by 20-30%. Many OCOP entities have recognized and seen the effectiveness of the OCOP program and have proactively and boldly invested in perfecting packaging and product labels, registering intellectual property (20/65 OCOP entities have registered intellectual property), investing in website design and construction, etc.

According to Ms. Ta Tuyet Thu, Owner of Nong San Viet (Phuoc Long District), the facility first participated in the OCOP Program with 1 shrimp cracker product that was evaluated and classified as 4 stars. Over the time participating in the program, the facility has boldly invested in machinery and equipment, completed the production process and was granted the advanced quality management certificate "HACCP" by the Center for Aquatic Product Quality Region 5. Currently, the facility has boldly developed many more products to serve consumers, such as shrimp salt, vegetable and fruit crackers, black sesame rice cakes... and has 15 products evaluated and recognized as reaching the OCOP 3 - 4 star level (13 products achieving 4 stars and 2 products achieving 3 stars).

Ms. Vo Thi Hong Thoai, owner of Thien Phu fish sauce production and processing facility (Dong Hai district, Bac Lieu province) shared: Since Thien Phu fish sauce products were recognized as 3-star OCOP products, the company's Thien Phu fish sauce products have been sold more strongly in the market than before, and revenue has also increased day by day.

The OCOP program of Bac Lieu province has gradually affirmed its brand, quality and aimed to expand the export market.

According to Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu, the OCOP program is a key program for economic development in rural areas towards promoting internal resources and increasing value; it is an important solution and task in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Construction for the 2021-2025 period.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province commented that the OCOP program has been implemented synchronously, widely and effectively, creating a new wind for the rural economic sector, which is the right direction, contributing to restructuring the agricultural sector, increasing value and income for people. Especially through the program, it has helped connect small and medium enterprises, cooperatives, and local business households to support each other in the production and business process; thereby, forming value chains from production, processing to consumption...

 

Through the program, it has created motivation, helping local producers boldly innovate their thinking and creativity in the fields of agriculture and rural areas, creating many products of good quality, with beautiful packaging and labels,... in accordance with state regulations on the OCOP program. From there, it has attracted consumers inside and outside the province, expanded the consumption market, widely distributed in supermarket chains, helped the rural economy develop step by step and gradually affirm the brand, quality and aim for export. However, according to the Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province, the implementation of the OCOP program in Bac Lieu still has many difficulties and shortcomings, many OCOP products have not been able to penetrate deeply into the market, while the demand of people and tourists is very large.

In addition, during the implementation of the program, there are also shortcomings, limitations, difficulties and obstacles that need to be resolved. Most of the products are produced manually; the output is low, not meeting large orders; the number of OCOP products is large, but most of them only reach the 3-star level and the recognized OCOP products are mainly products processed from seafood.

To further improve the quality and quantity of OCOP products of the province in the coming time, Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Pham Van Thieu suggested that local departments and branches need to continue to promote extensive propaganda about the purpose, meaning and requirements of the OCOP program; raise awareness and change the thinking of OCOP subjects and consumers about the quality and brand of OCOP products; build and form separate and unique OCOP product distribution chains to create highlights and promote consumption of OCOP products...

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also requested sectors and localities to identify potential products and advantages of the locality to participate in the OCOP program; call on and mobilize young people to participate in start-up models with agricultural products and products from the rural economy related to the OCOP program; support entities to develop OCOP products in communes, especially remote communes, so that people have conditions to access and participate in the program.
