Ngoc Linh Ginseng, also known by the proud name of “national treasure”, is not only a rare medicinal herb but also a symbol of knowledge, culture and soul of the ethnic groups in Nam Tra My. Over many generations, from the vast forests, the Xe Dang people and other ethnic groups have discovered, preserved, passed down and developed a treasure trove of valuable knowledge related to Ngoc Linh Ginseng from experience in recognition, care, breeding to use in life and treatment.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen The Phuoc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Tra My district emphasized that the recognition of the Folk Knowledge of Ngoc Linh Ginseng as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage is not only the State's recognition of the profound cultural value of the local community, but also a motivation for us to continue to preserve, promote and spread that value to the whole country and the world . This is a great honor for Nam Tra My district and above all, the pride of the ethnic people here, those who preserve the soul of the mountains and forests, of the knowledge passed down from generation to generation.

“In the coming time, Nam Tra My district will continue to closely coordinate with departments, agencies and sectors of Quang Nam province and central agencies to develop a plan to preserve, exploit and promote sustainable folk knowledge about Ngoc Linh ginseng. We will also promote the transmission of knowledge to the younger generation, associated with the development of eco- tourism and culture, contributing to improving the material and spiritual life of the people,” said Mr. Phuoc.

In Quang Nam province, since 2017, when Ngoc Linh ginseng was identified by the Government as a national product, the province has encouraged and supported ginseng growers. To date, the planned area for conservation and development of Ngoc Linh ginseng has been identified as more than 15,000 hectares (of which more than 2,200 hectares are at altitudes of 2,000m and above, and more than 13,300 hectares are at altitudes of 1,200-2,000m), mainly concentrated in Nam Tra My district.
