With its rich geological heritage and diverse indigenous culture, Lang Son has long been an attractive destination for tourists who appreciate pristine nature, the history of Earth's formation, and the cultural life of ethnic minority communities.
On April 17, 2025, Lang Son Geopark was officially recognized by UNESCO as a Global Geopark. This event marks a major turning point for the locality to promote the conservation and exploitation of heritage values, while also creating new impetus for sustainable tourism development.

The organizing committee has released the map of Khuon Bong Cave in Vu Le commune, part of the UNESCO Lang Son Global Geopark.
Speaking at the program, Ms. Pham Thi Huong, Head of the Lang Son Geopark Management Department, said that the province is focusing on implementing the task of building and developing the geopark in the period 2026 – 2030, aiming to maximize the advantages of landscape, ecosystem and local culture.
The UNESCO Global Geopark Lang Son covers an area of over 4,842 km² and has a population of approximately 627,500 people, accounting for more than half of the province's total area. The vast geological space, magnificent cave systems, and cultural and historical heritage closely linked to community life create a unique appeal for this region. The diverse cultural identity, from architecture and cuisine to traditional festivals, provides a dual value for tourism – both exploring nature and experiencing the rich culture.
To maximize its potential, Lang Son has invested in the comprehensive development of transportation infrastructure, accommodation facilities, and human resource training at tourist destinations within the geopark. Exploration routes are developed based on a combination of geological history, natural landscapes, and cultural life.

Currently, the province operates four tourist routes with 38 destinations, distributed along National Highways 1A, 1B, 4B, and 279. Each route includes 7-11 attractions, allowing tourists to experience a variety of activities, from exploring caves and learning about geological structures to participating in community cultural activities.
According to Ms. Huong, the geopark model is economically open, simultaneously preserving and promoting heritage values, creating a connection between local communities and tourists. "With its unique historical, cultural, and intangible heritage values, the UNESCO Global Geopark Lang Son has the potential to develop distinctive and highly competitive tourism products such as geotourism, cave exploration tourism, or adventure tourism," she emphasized.
At the program, representatives from the National Cave Association of the United States, VietClimb Company, the Asian Tourism Development Institute (ATI), and others shared many ideas for developing tourism activities linked to heritage values, from designing experiential products and souvenirs to landscape renovation and communication strategies.
The units also discussed plans to organize the 2026 Winter International Geopark Festival, which will include cave exploration, sport climbing, and community tourism experiences.
The Organizing Committee announced the map of Khuon Bong Cave (Vu Le commune) and Nguom Mooc Cave (Binh Gia commune), and also introduced the Lang Son Geopark VTV8 Ultra Trail – Huu Lien 2025 race , scheduled to take place on December 27-28 in Cai Kinh and Huu Lien communes.
