Safety assessment of Dau Tieng dam and reservoir

Working group inspected the flood discharge system of Dau Tieng Lake.

In 2024, the company will discharge 12 times through the spillway, with a discharge flow of 36 m ³ -200 m ³ /s, with a total discharge volume of about 1,447 million m ³ . By the end of 2024, there will be 10 storms and tropical depressions active in the East Sea.

Of these, 4 storms directly affected the mainland, causing widespread heavy rain, especially storm No. 4 , which caused great damage to people and property. Heavy rains have occurred in the Dau Tieng Lake basin. The average total rainfall in the basin in 2024 is 2,021 mm, 149 mm more than in 2023.

At the meeting, experts and unit leaders assessed and advised on the safety level of dams, reservoirs, reservoir water storage plans and solutions to ensure safety of works and downstream dams.

Concluding the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Tung Phong - Director of the Department of Management and Construction of Irrigation Works requested the Southern Irrigation Exploitation Company Limited to complete the repair and upgrade of the spillway before June 30, 2025 to ensure safe operation.

At the same time, review the current status of the project and the reservoir operation process to serve the multi-purpose of project safety, downstream and water supply, taking into account flood drainage plans; improve the quality of flow forecasts, flood discharge scenarios, including emergency situations; review coordination regulations with localities in responding to and protecting the project...
