MU begins to rebuild the squad with coach Amorim |
The 2025 summer transfer market in England opened earlier than usual because of the 2025 Club World Cup. Immediately after the market opened, MU announced the first "blockbuster" deal named Matheus Cunha.
On the homepage, MU announced: "We have reached an agreement with Wolves to recruit Matheus Cunha. The signing of the Brazilian striker will be completed after the necessary administrative procedures."
Matheus Cunha is 26 years old this year. He has been a familiar star in the Premier League for the past 2 years. For Wolves, Cunha scored a total of 33 goals in 92 matches in all competitions. Previously, this striker played for Sion (Switzerland), RB Leipzig and Hertha (Germany) and Atletico Madrid (Spain).
MU did not announce the details of the agreement, but British media said the Red Devils had to spend 62.5 million pounds to release Cunha's contract with Wolves. Thus, Cunha became MU's first new player this summer, and became the most expensive star the Red Devils recruited since appointing coach Ruben Amorim.
At Old Trafford, Cunha will play as an attacking midfielder in Amorim's 3-4-3 formation. He is expected to replace Garnacho on the left wing. Currently, Garnacho has been pushed into the transfer market by MU and will almost certainly leave in the near future.
