On August 4th, Mr. Pham Van Nam, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Gia Lai province, stated that the Department is coordinating with relevant units to conduct field surveys and develop investment plans for the construction of multi-level boarding schools in seven border communes: Ia Dom, Ia Nan, Ia Pnon, Ia O, Ia Chia, Ia Mo, and Ia Puch.
According to the survey, these communes have 9,419 students, of which 54.65% are ethnic minorities. Many places have large school facilities such as Ia O commune (62 classes, 2,223 students), Ia Chía (53 classes, 1,552 students), Ia Dom (47 classes, 1,721 students)... However, the infrastructure is still limited and does not meet the learning, living, and accommodation needs of boarding and day students.
According to the proposal, in 2025, the province will begin construction of boarding schools for primary and secondary levels in the seven aforementioned communes, with a total estimated cost of over 1.211 billion VND. The projects will be designed according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training , including all facilities to serve teaching, learning, care, and comprehensive training for students.
In addition to proposing a list of school buildings and equipment, the Gia Lai Department of Education and Training also guided localities in completing procedures for adjusting planning, allocating land funds, and handling public assets; and clarified policies and regulations for students and teachers in border areas to ensure the feasibility and sustainability of schools after their establishment.
Investing in the construction of a comprehensive boarding school system not only contributes to improving the quality of education in border regions but also serves as a practical solution for retaining students, creating a stable workforce, and contributing to the protection of the nation's borders through knowledge.
