Hundreds of athletes compete at the traditional martial arts championship in the coastal city of Gia Lai

Nearly 700 martial artists and athletes from across the country gathered in Gia Lai to compete in the 34th National Traditional Martial Arts Championship.

On the evening of August 4, the 34th National Traditional Martial Arts Championship officially opened in Gia Lai . The event was organized by the Vietnam Sports and Physical Training Department, the Vietnam Traditional Martial Arts Federation in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province.

This year's tournament takes place in response to the campaign "All people exercise following the example of great Uncle Ho" and to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2.

The tournament has 686 martial artists, coaches and athletes from provinces, cities and sectors across the country competing in two categories: boxing and combat.

In boxing, athletes compete in three age groups: 17–40, 41–50 and 51–60. Teams participate in competitions including: regulated boxing (20 events for men and women), optional boxing (8 events for men and women) and sparring (3 events).

The competition is for the 17–40 age group, with 27 weight categories: 15 for men and 12 for women. Athletes compete individually in a knockout format.

Ms. Do Thi Dieu Hanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, presented souvenir flags to the participating delegations.

The host Gia Lai team has the largest number of participants, with 11 coaches and 67 athletes, including 1 national coach, 21 martial artists and 4 amateur martial artists. The team aims to maintain the highest achievements in both events, as achieved in the 2024 season.

According to the organizers, the 2025 National Traditional Martial Arts Championship is a sporting event rich in identity, demonstrating efforts to preserve and promote the quintessence of national martial arts. This is also an opportunity for different martial arts schools to exchange and learn from each other, while contributing to promoting the image, tourism potential and culture of Gia Lai to a large number of domestic and foreign tourists.
