Hanoians are busy shopping for offerings for the Duanwu Festival.
From early morning, Hang Be market (Hoan Kiem district) was bustling with customers coming to buy offerings for the Doan Ngo festival.
On this occasion, sticky rice wine is the most popular dish because it is indispensable on the ancestral altar. According to folk beliefs, the spicy taste of sticky rice wine can kill insects and diseases in the human body.
Today, the price of rice wine has increased by about double or triple compared to normal days. Each kilogram costs 100,000 - 120,000 VND, and retail is about 20,000 - 30,000 VND/box.
Despite the skyrocketing prices, people are still happy to buy this dish because it is still affordable. "This year, my family brewed more than 200 kg of rice wine to sell, divided into 2 markets, each person gets 100 kg, from early morning until now I have sold nearly 0.50 kg, maybe by noon it will be sold out," said a vendor.
In addition to sticky rice wine, mini five-color offering trays including sticky rice wine, fruits, fresh flowers, cakes such as xu xue, banh gio... priced at 400,000 VND/tray are very popular.
According to the seller, the highlight of this offering tray is that although it is compact, it has many types of fragrant traditional flowers that are very popular with people such as magnolia, areca flower, jasmine, peony, lotus. In addition, there is also sticky rice wine, cakes and fruits, so consumers only need to buy once to have a full and beautiful offering tray.
"Since yesterday, more than 20 people have asked me to make small offerings, and from this morning until now, I have sold more than 40 trays. By the end of the day, there will definitely be at least a hundred trays. I'm just afraid I won't have the time and energy to make them," said Ms. Nu.
The price of fresh flowers this morning increased slightly compared to normal days, in which the price of Guanyin lotus is 60,000 VND/bunch, the price of hundred-leaf lotus is 150,000 VND/bunch (an increase of 30,000 VND/bunch compared to that), and lilies are 40,000 - 50,000 VND/dozen.
Gio cake also increased in price by about 3,000 VND/piece, up to 10,000 VND/piece.
Lychee and plum are in season, so people are more interested in them than other fruits. This year, the price of lychee is lower than last year, because many growing areas have a good harvest. Currently, Thanh Ha lychee is priced at 40,000 - 60,000 VND/kg, and good plum is priced at 80,000 - 100,000 VND/kg.
Thanh Ha Market (Hoan Kiem District) is also crowded with people shopping for offerings for the Duan Ngo Festival.
Every shop has customers coming to buy.
Everyone quickly bought fragrant flowers, sweet fruits, sticky rice wine... to offer to the ancestral altar on the traditional New Year's Day.
