Professor Tran Van Tho's memoir, "Memories to the Future," is a truthful record of his life journey, in which he constantly pondered about culture, education , and the aspiration for a prosperous future for his homeland, Vietnam. It is the culmination of over half a century of academic study and life experiences in Japan. The book, over 500 pages long, is not only a personal recollection but also a connection between the past and the present, between memory and aspiration.
The book also reflects the author's major concerns, such as: how to develop Vietnam from a poor and war-torn country into a high-income nation; and the ideal image of a developed country where people live happy, civilized lives and are respected by the world…

Dr. Ngo Minh Duc, Rector of EIU, felt that Professor Tran Van Tho, although an economist, possessed a profound understanding of the nation's culture, society, and history.
"Professor Tran Van Tho's research and works always place economic issues within the overall social context, demonstrating a systemic mindset and a comprehensive perspective across the time axes of past, present, and future. This is also the spirit that EIU always aspires to spread: training a new generation of intellectuals who are not only professionally competent but also possess cultural identity and a sense of community responsibility," affirmed Dr. Ngo Minh Duc.
