Athletics and swimming demonstrate dominance.
On the opening day of athletics, Vietnamese athletes won two gold medals thanks to Ho Trong Manh Hung (men's triple jump) and Bui Thi Ngan (women's 1,500m). In his first SEA Games appearance, Ho Trong Manh Hung delivered an explosive performance, confidently competing against his rivals. He demonstrated his talent with an impressive time of 16.33 meters, promising further success on the international stage. Bui Thi Ngan's gold medal in the women's 1,500m solidified Vietnam's long-term position in this event. At the 2023 SEA Games, Bui Thi Ngan finished second behind her senior teammate Nguyen Thi Oanh. This time, Nguyen Thi Oanh decided not to participate in the 1,500m, giving the stage to younger athletes, and Bui Thi Ngan rose to prominence. Vietnamese athletics is undergoing a transition in its workforce, and Ho Trong Manh Hung and Bui Thi Ngan have shown reassuring qualities by leaving their mark.

In the swimming pool, swimmer Pham Thanh Bao continued to demonstrate his talent by defeating two strong opponents from Singapore to successfully defend his gold medal in the 100m breaststroke. While not entirely satisfied with his performance, winning gold medals in three consecutive SEA Games earns Pham Thanh Bao the title of "Southeast Asian Breaststroke Prince." The swimming team also concluded the day successfully with a gold medal in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay, won by Nguyen Viet Tuong, Nguyen Huy Hoang, Tran Van Nguyen Quoc, and Tran Hung Nguyen. The Vietnamese swimmers created a spectacular chase, defeating Singapore and Malaysia to claim the top spot.

"Gold standard" from gymnastics and karate
In gymnastics, Vietnamese athletes performed brilliantly, winning two gold medals: Nguyen Van Khanh Phong (rings) and Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien (pommel horse). Khanh Phong and Xuan Thien's success stems from the long-term investment of the Vietnam General Department of Sports and Physical Training, allowing them to continuously improve and achieve success at the peak of their careers. To achieve this success, the two athletes from Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Phong and Xuan Thien, had to sacrifice their childhood and train far from home from a young age. Their goal is to conquer higher-level competitions such as the Asian Games and the Olympics.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese karate remains unrivaled in the women's team kata event. The champions of ASIAD 19 (2023), Nguyen Thi Phuong, Nguyen Ngoc Tram, Hoang Thi Thu Uyen, and Bui Thi Nhi, delivered a perfect performance, securing a convincing victory against host Thailand in the final.
Also yesterday, Vietnamese sports won impressive gold medals thanks to Nguyen Hong Trong (taekwondo, 54 kg category), Dang Dinh Tung (jujitsu, 69 kg category), and Hoang Quoc Cuong/Phan Minh Hanh (judo, nage no kata event).
After two days of competition, the Vietnamese sports delegation has won 14 gold medals and promises to achieve further success in the following days in the "gold mines" of athletics, swimming, and martial arts…
