On the afternoon of December 11th, amidst the overwhelming cheers and support for Myanmar, the Vietnamese girls maintained their composure, played with great skill, and secured a convincing victory. It was an emotionally charged performance, fulfilling their mission and paving the way for the semi-finals.
The Vietnamese women's team's journey through the group stage of the 33rd SEA Games mirrored the familiar scenario of the previous Games. Back then, the Vietnamese team also defeated Malaysia, overcame Myanmar, and only lost to the Philippines, yet still advanced as group winners, progressing towards their fifth consecutive gold medal (gold medals in 2017, 2019, 2021, and 2023).

In the decisive match of Group B, coach Mai Duc Chung placed his trust in a seasoned squad – a familiar lineup. As expected, Van Su and Bich Thuy scored early to give the Vietnamese women's team a 2-0 lead within the first 25 minutes. In the remaining half, Myanmar launched a few attacks, creating some dangerous moments, but still couldn't break through the Vietnamese defense, and the 2-0 score remained unchanged after 90 minutes.
In this match, the Vietnamese players entered the game with high determination, most notably Van Su - who is only 1.52 m tall but possesses outstanding spirit and willpower. Despite being at a disadvantage in terms of physique, Van Su still jumped higher than everyone else to head the ball into the ground and open the scoring for the Vietnamese team.
In the other match of Group B played at the same time, the Philippines defeated Malaysia 6-0, advancing to the semi-finals along with Vietnam. The Philippine women's team will face the winner of Group A, Thailand.
With their victory over Myanmar, the Vietnamese women's team secured first place in Group B and will face the Indonesian women's team, the second-placed team in Group A. Their most recent encounter was in the group stage of the 2025 ASEAN Women's Football Championship (AFF Women's Championship), in August 2025, where the Vietnamese women's team defeated Indonesia 7-0.
The two semi-final matches of the women's football tournament at the 33rd SEA Games will take place on December 14th.
