“I still have six months left on my contract with Al Ittihad. I want to focus entirely on that,” Benzema replied when asked about the possibility of staying in Saudi Arabia longer. The former Real Madrid star also declined to give any guarantees about his future.
Since leaving Real Madrid in 2023 and joining Al Ittihad on a free transfer, Benzema signed a contract worth up to $108 million per year. The French striker immediately became one of the highest-paid players in the league.
However, his journey in Saudi Arabia wasn't always smooth sailing. Benzema faced fitness issues, interspersed with criticism from the local media. Nevertheless, professionally, he maintained a remarkable performance with 49 goals and 17 assists in 74 matches.
As his contract nears its end, the future of the 2022 Ballon d'Or winner is becoming increasingly uncertain. Speculation about Al Ittihad wanting to keep Benzema is rampant, but the French striker says he is still considering his options.
With Benzema set to become a free agent at the end of the season, many European teams and clubs in the Saudi Pro League are closely monitoring his next move.
