The three-country (Vietnam, Laos, and China) Ball-Throwing Festival will take place in Dien Bien.

The 9th Vietnam-Laos-China Ball Throwing Festival will take place in Dien Bien Phu ward, Dien Bien province, from December 19th to 21st. The festival will include many unique cultural, sports, and tourism activities.

The Three-Country Ball-Throwing Festival of Vietnam, Laos, and China is an annual cultural event organized alternately by localities sharing a common border. This activity holds significant political and diplomatic importance, contributing to strengthening solidarity, expanding people-to-people exchanges, promoting culture, and fostering sustainable development cooperation among the three countries.

In 2025, the festival will be hosted by Dien Bien province, with the participation of delegations from Dien Bien and Lai Chau provinces (Vietnam); Phongsaly (Laos); and Jiangcheng County, Pu'er City - Yunnan Province (China). The theme of this year's festival is "Unity, Friendship - Deepening Border Relations - Developing Together".

The Three-Country Ball-Throwing Festival of Vietnam, Laos, and China will take place in Dien Bien with many unique cultural, artistic, sporting , and tourism activities.

Over three days, the festival will offer a variety of unique cultural, artistic, sporting, and tourism activities, including: an opening ceremony with a spectacular artistic program showcasing the beauty of Dien Bien's land and people, spreading the spirit of friendship among the three countries; cultural exchanges and performances of traditional costumes by participating groups; exhibitions and promotion of cultural and tourism products; a photo exhibition in the Muong Thanh Market area; sports activities with six disciplines: throwing the "con" (a type of ball), stick pushing, crossbow shooting, "danh cu" (a type of spinning top), tug-of-war, and pickleball; a famtrip program to survey tourism products and meet with travel businesses; a closing ceremony with the handover of the flag for the next hosting event and activities such as a bonfire and farewell circle dance…

In addition, many activities were organized before and after the festival, such as: the Pu Tó Cọ peak climbing competition; the Dien Bien Province Youth Cross-Country Race; the swallow-tailed boat racing festival and the Cherry Blossom Festival in Muong Phang commune...

Mr. Tran Hai Ha, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Dien Bien province, said: "The Department has implemented a series of activities related to the preparation of the festival, including infrastructure and facilities; developing organizational scenarios, opening and closing ceremony programs, and content related to the exhibition area, cultural and artistic exchange of traditional ethnic groups, and sports competitions. These preparations are being carried out very urgently and effectively. Basically, the preparations have been completed according to schedule, ready for the activities to be organized as planned from December 19-21."

The Ball-Throwing Festival is not only a unique cultural exchange activity of the ethnic communities in the border region, but also an important opportunity to expand tourism cooperation, promote socio-economic development, and publicize the image of Dien Bien and Vietnam to international friends.
