(Baohatinh.vn) - The first fresh catches of scad fish of the season are selling for 280,000 - 300,000 VND/kg, so fishermen in Tien Dien commune (Ha Tinh province) are all excited to catch them, earning millions of dong after each fishing trip.

With the start of the scad fishing season, fishermen in Tien Dien commune begin heading out to sea at 7 a.m. every day. After 4-6 hours, dozens of boats returning from catching this "specialty" scad fish create a bustling scene throughout the region.

Fishermen are delighted because early-season catfish are selling well and fetching high prices.

Fisherman Vo Van Tung (Duong Phong village, Tien Dien commune) excitedly shared: "In recent days, catfish have started appearing in this area. This species lives 3-10 nautical miles from the shore, at depths of 20-60 meters. After 5 hours of casting my nets, my boat was lucky enough to catch more than 10 kg of catfish, earning nearly 3 million VND."

On average, each fishing boat catches 7-10 kg of scad fish during this fishing season.

Early-season catfish are in high demand, so traders are competing for every kilogram.

"This type of fish is in high demand in the market. Every day, I have to be there early to buy 30-40kg to supply to restaurants and eateries to make a profit, " said Ms. Hoang Thi Ha, a trader here.

Catfish can be prepared in many ways, such as in vegetable soup with chili peppers, braised with Vietnamese coriander, or used in hot pot dishes.

Despite the unfavorable weather and the arduous journey at sea in recent days, local fishermen are still enthusiastic because the early-season scad fish are selling well and fetching good prices. On average, each boat earns between 2 and 3 million VND per trip.
