Traffic police are checking for alcohol levels.

Following the directives of the Minister of Public Security , on December 12th, the Traffic Police Department announced the issuance of a comprehensive plan to tighten order and ensure traffic safety nationwide.

The peak period aims to serve the 14th National Congress of the Party, the election of the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, New Year's Day, Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), and other festivals at the beginning of 2026.

The Traffic Police Department requires its forces to proactively anticipate and address potential safety hazards, traffic congestion, serious accidents, and acts of public disorder. In Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and other key areas, police must implement a comprehensive set of operational measures to curb accidents and reduce congestion.

Illegal gatherings, street racing, reckless driving, and resisting law enforcement will be dealt with severely. Law enforcement officers must adhere to procedures, behave professionally, and avoid conflicts.

On roads, the focus is on addressing violations that directly cause accidents, such as driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs; speeding; driving in the wrong lane; changing lanes without signaling; overloading or oversized cargo; or modifying vehicle bodies. Police are intensifying controls on commercial transport vehicles, illegal passenger pick-up and drop-off, driving against the flow of traffic, reversing on highways, or entrusting vehicles to unqualified individuals.

"From 10:00 AM on the first day of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Horse), traffic police nationwide will simultaneously conduct alcohol breath tests," the Traffic Police Department announced.

In the waterway sector, authorities are tightening management of vessels, crew members, safety conditions at ports and wharves, and the operation of cargo and passenger transport. On the railway, task forces, in coordination with the railway industry and local authorities, are inspecting train operation procedures, handling violations of safety corridors, and addressing unauthorized crossings.

During the peak period, inter-provincial patrols were also organized along National Highway 1 from Lang Son to Ca Mau. Police were deployed 24/7 with four shifts, combining undercover and overt patrols, mobile patrols, and fixed checkpoints. Each team consisted of 3-5 officers, led by an experienced commander; local authorities deployed forces in a staggered manner to avoid overlapping or leaving areas unattended.

The entire task force must use handheld cameras and body-worn mini-cameras to record the entire inspection and handling process. This is to aid in verifying and resolving complaints, clarifying acts of resistance, and increasing transparency in the performance of official duties.
