Djokovic withdraws from Rome Masters after poor form

(NLDO) - Novak Djokovic, the tennis player who has won 24 Grand Slam titles, has just announced his withdrawal from the 2025 Rome Masters due to a serious decline in form.

Djokovic is currently on a three-match losing streak, most recently a surprise defeat to Matteo Arnaldi at the Madrid Open.

Announcing on Instagram, Djokovic shared regretfully: “Rome, I will miss you. Hope to see you next year.”

The Rome Masters (also known as the Italian Open) is the last major ATP tournament before Roland Garros, where Djokovic has won six times. However, this time he may go into the French Open without having won a match on clay since his victory over Carlos Alcaraz at the Olympics last summer.

Djokovic's ups and downs have made him admit that he is having to get used to a "new reality", no longer being a top contender, only trying to win a few matches instead of aiming for the championship.

Despite playing more tournaments than last season, Djokovic's efforts to regain his form have been ineffective. He has been eliminated in the first round in four of his last five tournaments.

"I want to play my best tennis at the Grand Slams. Even though I'm not sure I can do it at Roland Garros, I will try my best" - Djokovic once shared.

No longer considered a top candidate for the championship at Roland Garros 2025, Djokovic still hopes that his "outsider" status this time can bring a surprise.
