Speaking at the program, Mr. Kevin Anderson, Secretary of Commerce of Maryland welcomed and welcomed the delegations of countries as well as the Vietnamese delegation to work in the United States. Mr. Kevin Anderson said that organizing this trade and investment promotion delegation is extremely necessary to create conditions for businesses of the two countries to strengthen cooperation and have more opportunities to directly exchange investment cooperation. Mr. Kevin also emphasized the role of Maryland in expanding economic and trade activities with Vietnam, recognizing the positive results that the Maryland business delegation has achieved through the Vietnam International Sourcing Expo 2024 event organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade in early June 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City.

At this event, on behalf of the delegation, Mr. Vu Ba Phu - Director of the Trade Promotion Agency expressed his gratitude to the Secretary of Commerce of Maryland and the representative of the Prince George County Economic Development Agency for their warm welcome to the Vietnamese delegation. He said that the upgrading of the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries has created more favorable conditions for economic and trade relations, opened up many opportunities to enhance investment cooperation, and created conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to confidently enter the US market.

In order to specify the cooperation goals in the coming time, on the morning of June 25, the delegation had a direct working session with the Maryland state government in general and Anne Arundel County in particular. Welcoming the delegation were Mr. Pete Smith - Member of the Anne Arundel County Council, Mr. Stephen Rice - Director of Economic Development of Annapolis City and Ms. Carrie Long - Senior Representative of Business Development, Maryland Department of Commerce.

The delegation worked with representatives of the Maryland state government and Anne Arundel county in the capital city of Annapolis.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Pete Smith affirmed that the Maryland state government in general and Anne Arundel County in particular always welcome and are ready to support Vietnamese businesses and investors to seek business cooperation opportunities here. He said that Anne Arundel County has a diverse economy, currently ranked 3rd in Maryland with 61,000 businesses with prominent fields such as agriculture , maritime, manufacturing, etc. Therefore, Vietnam has many opportunities to penetrate deeper into the US market, including Maryland. In particular, the delegation of more than 20 businesses in fields such as logistics, food processing, healthcare, manufacturing, etc. are completely suitable for developing and expanding business in the state.

Sharing at the meeting, Mr. Vu Ba Phu, Director of the Trade Promotion Agency, expressed his sincere thanks to the representatives of the city and state authorities for warmly welcoming the delegation. Mr. Vu Ba Phu said that the large number of Vietnamese enterprises participating in the delegation, as well as 70 Vietnamese enterprises attending the SelectUSA event this year, shows the remarkable development of the relationship between the two countries, demonstrating the desire of Vietnamese enterprises to reach out to the international market.

At the meeting, Mr. Quach Tat Liem, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoa Binh province, expressed his thanks to the Maryland State Government for welcoming the delegation, and showed a video clip introducing the characteristics, potentials, strengths and socio-economic development of the province in the past time, and the development orientation of the province in the coming time. He said that currently, Hoa Binh province has been developing agriculture in a safe and effective direction; large-scale production of goods associated with the consumer market; closely linking processing industry, tourism, environmental protection, ecology, and adaptation to climate change. The province's investment incentives and support include: exemption and reduction of corporate income tax, land rent, water surface rent, import tax on machinery and equipment, etc., in addition to prioritizing the attraction of industrial projects producing key products, encouraging the development of preservation industry, deep processing, refined processing, high-tech processing, clean agriculture, etc. The Vice Chairman shared that Hoa Binh province hopes that in the near future, businesses in particular and the United States in general will come to invest and promote trade in the province and commits to creating the most favorable conditions to serve US businesses and traders to learn, negotiate and sign contracts.

The working program in Washington DC was highly appreciated by businesses in connecting, creating an additional channel for policy consultation, exchanging experiences, effective market information, supporting businesses to overcome challenges, seize opportunities; at the same time, creating opportunities for the business community of the two countries to propose to state management agencies solutions to enhance import-export activities, promote trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and the United States in the future. The trade program between businesses of the two countries took place enthusiastically, many businesses have found partners, moving towards signing contracts in principle such as The World Group Joint Stock Company has worked with partners in the medical field, the two sides are expected to continue to exchange online about the possibility of signing contracts.

On the same day, June 25, Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung and the Embassy staff received and worked with the delegation. At the meeting, the Ambassador and Vietnamese businesses shared and discussed cooperation opportunities, regulations on investment, business, and market access in the context of the two countries upgrading to a comprehensive strategic partnership in September 2023, especially when the US trade policy is increasingly focused on workers' rights, attracting investment in the US as well as enhancing geopolitical competition in the international arena. On behalf of the delegation, Mr. Quach Tat Liem and Mr. Vu Ba Phu thanked Ambassador Nguyen Quoc Dung for taking the time to receive the delegation and proposed to continue to strengthen trade and investment promotion activities with an increasingly active role of the diplomatic representative agency as well as the Vietnam Trade Office in the US.
