Thanh Nga Cai Luong Troupe was originally owned by Mrs. Tho, and after 1975 became a collective Cai Luong troupe under the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City. When Mrs. Tho passed away, in 1996, Mr. Hoang Ngoc An became the troupe's leader, and the troupe continued to operate without stopping. In 2022, Mr. An passed away, and the position of Director of Hong Lac Xuan Company and Head of Thanh Nga Troupe was handed over to his daughter, Meritorious Artist Tam Tam. She is also an actress at Tran Huu Trang Theater.
Mr. Hoang Ngoc An has produced and performed many Buddhist operas, and is also the writer of many scripts under the dharma name Chanh Duc Phap. The plays The Story of Buddha Shakyamuni, Prince Ajatashatru, Quan Am Dieu Thien, Quan Am Thi Kinh, Muc Lien Thanh De, Buddha's Teachings on Cause and Effect, Prince Cau Na La's Eyes, Cause and Effect in Life, The Thousand-Golden Lesson... are still being re-produced and performed during festivals such as Buddha's Birthday, Vu Lan, Quan Am's Birthday, Amitabha's Birthday...
Meritorious Artist Tam Tam said: "Before now, we have always performed for free, called offerings, going to all large and small pagodas, remote areas. Recently, the Bac Son Love Songs group, with singer Bich Thuy (daughter of musician Bac Son), performed together, supporting all the vehicles to transport the actors and the sound and lighting, so we are very relaxed. Currently, the group only has me and artist Khanh Tuan as the pillars, the older uncles and aunts have passed away or are seriously ill, so we invited more young artists such as Meritorious Artist Trung Thao, Ly Thu, Hoai Nam... to strengthen. Bringing songs and voices to touch people's hearts, that is our joy."
