TPO - Fishing enthusiasts in Da Nang fish without hooks or rods. Their unique method of fishing using bottle caps at the river mouths in Da Nang has surprised and delighted many.
The estuaries along Da Nang Bay are currently in season for mullet, a type of brackish water fish with delicious, flavorful meat. |
| Every day, many fishing enthusiasts bring their equipment to the banks of the Han River and Phu Loc River, patiently sitting and fishing for mullet. |
| Normally, when going fishing, anglers need to bring a rod and hooks. But people in Da Nang only use a fishing line and a plastic bottle to catch a lot of fish from the river. |
These mullet were caught from the Han River estuary without the need for hooks or fishing rods. |
At Phu Loc Bridge (Thanh Khe Tay Ward, Thanh Khe District, Da Nang), where the Phu Loc River flows into the sea, dozens of anglers flock there daily to fish, not only for recreation and enjoyment but also to earn extra income. |
According to anglers, fishing with plastic bottles is very simple and anyone can do it. Instead of fishing with a rod and hook as usual, anglers here simply put a spoonful of flour into a halved plastic bottle, add a little water, stir well, then drop it into the river. When the fishing line vibrates, the fish is hooked, and the angler just reels in the line to catch the fish. |
Mr. Le Khoi (residing in Thanh Khe Tay ward, Thanh Khe district) said: Fishing is not only for recreation but also helps him earn extra income. “I come here to fish from 2 PM because the fish usually feed the most at that time. Every day I can earn several hundred thousand dong from fishing. Today I was lucky that someone bought my catch right away,” Mr. Khoi said with a smile. |
According to Mr. Khoi, the most common fish caught this season is the mullet, which usually lives along rivers and coastlines. Once the fish are in the bottle and eating the bait, they cannot escape because the diameter of the plastic bottle is small, preventing them from turning around. |
Wheat flour is a favorite food of mullet, so anglers use it as bait. |
| Many people come out of curiosity to see and buy fish directly from the river. |
Anglers carefully hold the other end of the fishing line; when a fish enters the bottle, the line vibrates, and the angler pulls the line to bring the fish ashore. |
When caught, the fish are placed in buckets or bags. |
| The joy of a fisherman catching fresh, delicious fish from the river. |
