Especially at My Son today, the number of international tourists always accounts for more than 80% of the total.
The My Son Relics Management Board stated that, with the help of UNESCO, the governments of Italy, India, Poland, etc., up to this point (March 2024), the restoration and embellishment of most of the tower groups, which are relatively complete ruins, has been completed, ensuring sustainability for future generations.
Among these, tower group G stands out with the Kala (god of time) mask set, consisting of more than 30 artifacts, a unique and only mask set fully and intact gathered at the foot of tower G1.
Kala is a two-horned monster with bulging eyes, small ears, a lion's nose, taut cheeks, and jagged teeth with long fangs.
According to Hinduism, it is the symbol of the god of time; an incarnation of the god Siva, symbolizing the destruction of time, impermanence, and things always changing.
So, what's special here is that more than 30 Kala faces have different sculpted features, from simple to complex, all depicting ferocity, but majesty, and uniqueness.
Tower Group G has 5 structures on a low hill. This is the most unique religious architectural work in My Son, dating back nearly 1,000 years. According to the inscription left here, the tower group was built by Champa King Jaya Harivarman in the second half of the 12th century to worship the god Siva.
Group G tower has been restored by restoration experts from the University of Milan (Italy) for 15 years and is now complete.
On the left of the G1 tower, there is also a Yoni statue placed on a pedestal with many nipples surrounding it, symbolizing fertility. This is the largest intact female genital sculpture in My Son, making the G1 tower even more special.
